Maybe Flying J is trying to tell the rvers to use the rv islands that are there for that purpose.

I have never had a good experience at a Flying J. My RV Rewards card has never worked at the pump to authorize my credit card. I have always had to make at least two trips inside (one to authorize, one to pay) which is just a waste of time since they normally have a ton of people in line and only a few lines open. One time it took me 45 minutes to get in and out of there which is killer on a long trip. Plus, they changed the policy with the RV rewards card requiring you to buy a certain amount of store items in the last month (I was told $30 even though a previous poster just said $10). Either way, this change in policy was never communicated to me until I filled up this last time and saw I no longer had a discount. That was the last straw for me. I will never go to another Flying J again. If I'm going to have to pay full price anyway, I would rather go to more organized place that gets me in and out quick without a hassle.

F-J hasn't alienated me. I like the Rv islands.. if you don't, use the car pumps.

Could you clarify this, please? I'm confused, as there seems to be a contradiction here. First you say that you pay the standard price at the truck pumps with any credit card, then you state how you can get the cash price with their own credit card.

Did you mean to say that you pay the standard price at the truck pumps with any credit card except their own card? Or do you only get the cash price with their own card at the RV island?

I've read so many posts by other forum members, and the official information direct from FJ, and it still seems to contradict what is actually happening at my local FJ. It's all so confusing... and I used to think that I was reasonably intelligent, until I tried to figure out FJ's pricing and rewards structures.

I like the RV islands too, at least at my local FJ. Everything you need is right there, and there is usually no long wait in line. It would be nice if they had just a little more turning room on the exit side, but it's not too bad. But if they only had the high flow rate pumps like they have on the truck side, I would be in heaven. Still, of the local places to fuel up, it's my favorite, even with these minor imperfections.

Now, if only I could figure out how to best use their reward structure...

I typed exactly what I meant! There IS NO SURCHARGE..there is the PRICE and then the CASH DISCOUNT price. As of Sept..if you use ANY CARD EXCEPT FJ's own Mastercard you pay the "full price". If you use THEIR mastercard you get the cash discount price and if you also use their RV card you get an additional 1 cents off per gallon.

FJ is tired of getting gouged by VISA..etc..etc..and have made some sort of agreement ( evidently??) with Mastercard theu their bank to get gouged less..so they have gone with their own "credit card" for fuel purchases

1) Regular credit card.."full price"

2) FJ Master card.."cash discount price"..and with it if you use it
3) Their RV card you get an additional 1 cent per gallon reduction in price

That is the FJ policy..and if a station you use doesnt give youi those discounts...Id call FJ right there on my cell phone and ask Why Not..if the station manager didnt give you satisfaction.

If more people held up the lines by forcing the station manager to explain why you didnt get it...before long he'd tell the cachiers to make sure they gave it to people using the FJ "RV" card

I prefer Flying J's with the RV Islands, and don't mind the slower diesel pumps as it gives me time to dump my holding tanks while the diesel tank is filling up. Can't do this at the truck pumps.

The original poster isn't speaking for me.

I love Flying J. If you don't, then use another gas station.

Good grief.

Try pulling into TA or Pilot or some local gas station instead. Have fun if you're pulling a toad.

Another way to look at it is that FJ is indeed trying to keep more money in their pocket and got tired of paying out what they were to the credit card companies.

So...they offer their own credit card and you can secure it, to get the discount, or you can pay cash.

Can't argue with their logic.

Or....am I missing something?

Going to be interesting in Arizona with rigs over 26,000lb. They're not allowed to use the RV diesel pumps as the state tax rules are different for those over 26,000 lb. I can see some VERY VERY long lines at the RV pumps. The cops will no doubt have something to say to Flying-J about that.
