Hey All,
I am looking to replace the tires on my TV. I am looking at the Toyo Open Country and the BFG A/T in 265-70-17 load range E. They both have load ranges very close to each other(3180#/tire in SRW) and will be replacing the Michelins that came on my truck. I posted here as with alot of you I am airing down to drag the trailer on the sand but most of my driving is on road. I am towing kinda heavy the rear axle is at 5800# fully loaded. Any experiences good or bad with either of these tires? The price difference is minimal with the Toyo's being 200.00 more out the door. Truck and trailer are in my sig.

Personal opinion... go with the Toyo's. I had BFG A/T's on my truck origionally and when it came time to replace it was a toss up. I went with the Toyo's and they ride a lot better than my BFG's did. They also have a (I hesitate to say) more agressive tread pattern as well and seem to get better grip offroad than my BFG's did. I have the Open Country A/T's on my truck now.
The other plus for me was that I got my Toyo's from a Les Schwab and have had fantastic service from them. For the BFG's in my area I would have had to go to Sears and I haven't been so lucky with them.

Put some BF's on my wife's suburban and hated them. Felt like the suburban was all over the road for the first 10,000miles or so.
Never will another dollar of mine be wasted on BF's.

I have never owned a Toyo, but if and when I replace the tire on my Truck they will be Toyo. I will only run Goodyear 614's on my 5er as long as their made in the USA, if not I will look at some other brand. The research I have done say the Toyo is a great tire. GBY....

I have Toyo open country on my truck and couldn't be happier. Mileage looks good so far and they handle our toy hauler with no problem. all i do is air them up to 80PSI before leaving.

Both make a great tire. I've been using BFG's for over 30 years, mostly on Jeep CJ's when I used to build rockcrawlers. I now have them on my Chevy Express AWD van and my 2500HD. BFG's have been the leader and most trusted tire in off-road conditions. On the road I find them quiet and an excellent choice for going through snow or airing down on sand. I don't think you can go wrong with either choice as Toyo's have really made a name for themselves lately. You could almost....and I hate to say it....go for the one which looks best on your wheels.

I made the mistake of going with the Nitto Terra Grapplers on my Chevy 2500. They look alot like the Toyo's. The tires didn't last long at all. They worked great but the tread wear stunk. I have used the BFG's on my Jeep before with great luck. I haven't used them on a bigger towing rig though. I'm not sure what I'll go with next time.

Toyo all the way. i've had this set on two trucks now. first truck i had them on for 1 1/2 years and 12,000 miles, put them on this truck when i traded the '03 for the '06. i have 18,000 miles on the '06. i'm the Flagman for S.N.O.R.E. and they work great for course marking and clean up. there is very little wear and no side wall cracks.

I put toyo 285's on my Dodge. The only complaint is they appear to be wearing faster than expected, but I would buy again.
