Well, my Titans transmission gave up the ghost this weekend and Nissan just called and said it was trashed - I already knew that. They told me the same thing that I knew already - the fluid was black and smelled burned and it slipped when under load. My coolant was also leaking via two issues - a bird that I had hit a while back was still lodged in there and the tank had a huge crack in it. My wife told me I could go ahead and get a new truck. I am not looking for bashing right now. My camper is a Jayco 28BHS that has a GVWR of 7500 lbs - supposedly anyway. I am looking for a diesel so I dont have to worry about this for a long while. Here is what I know, for years Dodge has had a troublesome transmissions, Ford keeps changing their engines up and GM, I dont know anything about. Can you guys/gals help me out?

You are right IMO. Dodge has a great motor, tranny not so much. Ford I think has passed Dodge overall, they have made great improvements, but I've heard of problems. Chevy was not even in the running a while back, now with the new motor/Allison combo I think Chevy is the pick right now. Others will no doubt have a different view.....get ready!

First off, I'm a Chevy man so you know my vote. Love the D'max and the allison. Probably the most comfortable ride of any of the 3/4tons.

If it wasn't a Chevy, I wouldn't be scared at all of the Dodge. The Cummins is an outstanding motor, hate to say it but probably better than the D'max. Problem is, the Dodges are just plain old uncomfortable and cheap looking inside and out.

As for Ford, my name will NEVER appear on the title of one of those pieces of junk again.

Go for the DODGE and auto. Up to 2006 had the 4 speed + OD 48RE and mine's never given me a bit of trouble. Pulls like an elephant. The later 6 speeds are also strong. Don't let somone who doesn't have one blow smoke up your you know what. Rhymes with bass. I have 68,000 miles on my 2005. I pull a 9500-10000 lb TT and it works as advertised. 5.9's give better milage than the 6.7 due to not having all the smog junk on them.

Without starting a war here, such as "my truck is better than your truck" if I were you, I'd test drive all of the "Big 3" ¾ ton diesels and pick the one you like the best.

I feel that any of the "Big 3" ¾ ton trucks will do a fine job for you. Since it's a truck you're going to have to "live" with for a long-period, you need to be certain of your decision. There are incredible deals on diesels right now, it's definitely a "buyers" market.

Me, I love my F250, but that's my opinion. At the time I was buying my truck I did test-drive a Dodge and a Chevy. The Ford had what I wanted on a truck, so that's what I ended up with. Also, at the time, on of my main "buy" buttons was the "IBC" (Integrated Brake Controller), it's awesome the way it controls the truck and trailer combined. If I'm correct, I think Chevy has now incorporated an IBC in their newer models.

I love my 08 Duramax. I looked at the Ford and liked it quite a bit. Dealers in my area were offering better deals on the Dodge, however the interior appears cheap and to me it's just an ugly truck. However I must admit, that I always prefer a GMC truck.

The transmissions available in the dodge diesel powered trucks are as reliable as anything else out there, in spite of what those who really don't know what they're talking about might wish to imply. In spite of that, I think for 2008 I'd buy one of the GM twins. That Duramax is a great powerplant for personal use vehicles, the Allison has a fine reputation as a good transmission for trailer puller duties and the optional auto locker rear end is the best available. It makes absolutly no sense to be loyal to any particualr brand unless of course that brand pays the bills. Ford wore the king of the Hill crown for a number of years, and until very recently, I believe Dodge earned the right to wear it, but with GM's new body styles, updated interiors and LBZ/6 speed combination, that is where my earned dollars would probably be spent today, providing satisafaction and convienience of the dealer, sales staff and price is within reason.

Any of the three will do fine. I just swung a deal on a 2007 dodge Megacab 5.9L Cummins. No emissions junk like the 6.7L Cummins, the LMM Dmax, and the 6.4L Ford.

If you get a 2008 model, you'll be saddled with the new emissions and lower mpg. Get a used 06 or 07.
