Non-powered roof vents.

I asked this question in a previous thread...and thought it possible some folks just are not reading that one due to its "reconstructive" nature.

I am completely replacing an Old-style Jensen vent...right now i just have a hole in the roof. Is there any reason i have to stay with Jensen...or can i buy whatever 14x14 brand the local dealer has in stock? Is one brand any better than the others?

Thanks in advance.

Use what ever you want. Powered is MUCH better. I have 3 Shur-Flo Comfort-Air fans. Very nice.

In your last post you mentioned fan, so people assumed you wanted to replace just the fan! So yes, any brand of 14X14 vent will fit a 14X14 hole!

You will need a source of power if you want to add a powered roof vent. Do you have a ceiling light close by that you can tap power off of?

Either a powered Fantastic Fan or one of the new Shurflo fans. We're partial to the Fantastic, but mostly because that's all we've ever had and Fantastic's name is an excellent way to describe their service. I had a broken housing on the gear box that lifts the lid. I asked the Fantastic rep to order me a new housing for our 12-year old DP. He gave us a brand new fan. Complete. And he even installed it. It just doesn't get any better than that.

When we purchased our trailer, I had the dealer install a Fantastic fan with thermostat in the vent in the bedroom as well as a MaxxAir vent cover. It works great! I like the thermostat control so that the fan will come on automatically to exhaust/intake air while I may or may not be in the trailer. It works even if all the windows are closed because I have the other two vent covers covered with MaxxAir covers so I can leave all the vents open if I wish.

yardmaster,

I would recommend going with a powered vent seeing as you have a power source so close, without the rain sensor feature. I've had 2 FantasticFans and really like them. Cover it with a FanMate 800 hood and you can leave it open in the rain and have the thermostat turn on the fan when you're gone to provide an air exchange. Just crack a window a little to provide a source of incoming air.

just remember if using a local (light) power source, if it is walled switched, it will need to be left on to power the fan...
