Boy you leave pop-up blocker off one time and the dirty so and so's
sneak in.
2 days ago I was downloading some songs from Amazon and my pop-up blocker made it a pain to download
sooo this dummy turns it off and then forgets to turn it back on.
so far no virus program has helped.
I only paid $50 for it 3 years ago but it worked very well for me
today I bought a laptop now when I'm camping I can still log on.
I may take old to shop but they want $55 an hour.
The only way I could get dumber is to get bigger.

I got over 900 "Trojans" last year on our PC when down loading music on Lime Wire apparently. Seems that they can "piggy back" in when your firewall is down. I'm on dial up so had to turn off firewall at times to expidite. Only an hour at a time, but it was enough.

Limewire (or any other peer-to-peer stuff ) on a PC is a very bad idea, as you found out.
On a Mac, however, Limewire is no problem.

Get what you pay for... Sometimes a good deal is not so good...... Example, you already spent 400 on a laptop and if you go with a new Apple, you will have spent 400 more than you would have if you went with Apple in the first place..Of course, you can always look for a used Mac... Be sure to get the intel chips and not the Motorola's.... If you go with the Motorola, you can't use Windows at the same time...

Contrary to what you say, not having a popup blocker is not what caused your problem. Maybe keying on a popup is what caused your problem although I doubt it. I think something else is going on here. I have never had a problem with popups downloading from Amazon.
Also, you don't explain what the problem is. Virus programs only stop and catch virus's.
There is more here than what meets the eye.

I second what ReadyToGo said. Your problem doesn't sound like it has anything to do with popups unless you clicked on one that you shouldn't. More likely there is something else that has it acting up.
I agree that a MAC would be less problematic although it is much more expensive, if you have been with windows for quite sometime you will find yourself paying for software that you already have in order to run it on a Mac.

It was embedded in the song files. Never file share. Amazon ok, reputable web site ok, but never from some dude you never heard of.
I made the same mistake when opening a Youtube video once, but AVG antivirus caught it and held it while I cut it's little head off. Oh yeah.
I wish they would run ads on the tv everyday to show people what NOT to do on their PC.
