First, if you have a plural noun, you do not use apostrophe. If you are using a possessive noun, then use the apostrophhe.

Secondly, many dog owners look the other way when the dog "goes". I find that unacceptable, but find that the behaviour has little to do with the cleanliness of their homes.

I disagree. If they are that trashy outside. Probably are inside as well. Trashy people act trashy everywhere they are. And don't be fooled when you don't see the trash when you go in. After years of repairing high end furniture out of "high class" houses. I find that dog and cat hair is everywhere in the house. Especially on the furniture, and carpet. I have had furniture come in whith so much hair on the back bottom rails. thet you couldn't even see them. Was like a furry bottom skirt. Takes much effort to keep a house clean, with dogs and cats in it. Many do. Like the ones that pick up after their dog. Some don't, Like the ones that don't pick up after their dog. and if they don't look after their dog outside. I'm betting they don't inside either. we clean up after our dog, and he can't get out of the yard.
And if you understood what I said. My grammer was acceptable.

I agree...By the way, the period goes inside the quotation mark.

Actually the period goes inside the quotation mark when the quotation is the subject matter if the sentence, and outside the period if it is just a citation. So in this case, the period would remain outside the quotation marks. Old English rules and common American applications are different. Debauchery doesn't necessarily make for correctness.
