I’m getting ready to have power run out to our motor home but I’m not sure what I need. When I get bids I want to make sure they are all bidding on what I need and not taking short cuts to low-ball the bid.

We have conduit running to our pad which is about 50’ from our house. The main panel is on the other side of the house so that would be another 50’ to 60’for a total of 100’to110’.

I want a 30 amp circuit and a 20 amp circuit installed.

Do I need one set of wires for each circuit?

What gauge of wire do I need installed?

Any other specific things do I need included in the bid?

Any advice will be greatly accepted.

Thanks,

Mike

It may not be possible to get the right answer here due to codes and local ordinances. There are a few different ways to get what you want, but since you are contracting the work out you will be dealing with a permit, licensed electrician and inspections. Most likely scenario is a new metered service will be required.

As long as you are running it, I would spend a bit more and run a 50 amp circuit out, then put a sub panel to get 50, 30 and 20 outlets.

I would do the same, with the "sub panel" being one of the typical campground pedestals with those three outlets and the associated breakers.

Ditto, Chris always has advice worth listening to.

Do the sub panel

Now on the codes, meters, and so on.

I live in the country and you don't need any of that. The power company does not have a problem if you take the power after it goes thru the incoming meter. If you have to pay for all the stuff coming in thru the main meter why do a separate meter if you are not gonna charge for the site?

Any licensed contractor will by law wire to NEC and local codes. All you need to do is tell them exactly what you want. Putting the box out on the RV pad is a good idea. That way you can have any and all powers available should you desire to hook up another RV in the future that does have 50 amps service.

Run # 6 x 4 wires to a sub. Then pull a 30 amp receptical w/ breaker, and a 20 ampreceptical w/ breaker. Its not science !

Go with a 50 amp!!!!! I have been there and done that twice. Its not really that much more expensive. Almost any Lic Electriction will be able to do the job, after you tell them what you want. I think it cost me around $200.00. Good Luck... GBY....
