We are thinking about upgrading to a bigger travel trailer and I have been looking at all sorts of layouts. A friend of mine asked me if I had thought about a 5th wheel?? I hadn't, but I guess I could. What is the difference between a 5th wheel and a regular travel trailer?? Why would one choose one over the other???

Thanks,

Rick

Mostly more room for a comprable length, also easier to tow, no swerving etc. comparte to a TT, usually more outside storage, and the list goes on & on....

Besides the outside storage and ease of towing, most travel trailers are from 14-34ish feet, yes there are longer travel trailers but not many while a 5er starts around 28 feet and runs up to 40 feet so you typically have alot more internal room along with basement storage. The interior height is usually higher too along with larger water/waste tanks. That might be really important for people who dry camp.

All of the above plus a 5ver is easier to hook/unhook, setup/take down. Its as different as night & day when towing as opposed to a TT. We've had both - much prefer the 5ver.

I've also seen a few parks here in Fla., that only allow A's and 5ers.

After having owned both types, for me the biggest advantages are ease of hitching and easier towing without the sway or bounceing of our TT setup. If we were staying in one spot I would not hesitate to get another TT.

PS...We have been on the road for about 4wks so far and we are in Newfoundland! You live in a beautiful province! Currently we are at Bellevue Beach enjoying a lazy rain day inside the 5er wasteing time on the laptop.

Easy of hooking and unhooking, lots storage, roomy, easier to back into tight spots, able to tow a boat or trailer behind, more stable to pull down the road. We are very happy that we upgraded to a 5er.

All the above, but you do lose the truck bed. There is a way of gaining a lot of space. Get a Toy Hauler. That way you have your own garage too. Take all the gear you want.
