YnotTurbo, You state "you lose the truck bed" is because the hitch is always in there when not towing or you can't get a much stuff in the bed while towing? I'm asking just for clarification, no other reason.

My hitch comes out and leaves a flat floor. Also, I do put things in the bed while pulling the fifth wheel, I just make sure the don't interfere with turning and the light cord. I also make sure things are straped down so they won't blow out.

What I am saying is that you lose some of the bed when hooked on to the fiver. I don't put anything on either side of my hitch when towing. Just want to make sure that I give as much free room for turning etc. I do take my hitch out when not in use so I can carry quad to atv areas near me.

What I would suggest is making a list of all the differences without consideration to your likes/dislikes. Then after you think your list is complete, evaluate what is/is not important to you and your budget. Use a (+ -) mark against all the differences and you should quickly see what is in your best interest.

What might be important to one, may not be important to you.

If you want a list, ask by posting.

We like the more residential feel of a 5th wheel since we are full timers.

Stick to a TT unless your going to upgrade your tow rig. A F-150 will be very limiting on new 5er's. If you plan on upgrading your truck and trailer anytime soon, a 5er is the only way to go in pull behind trailers.

One thing I didn't see posted is the resale if needed. A TT would sell easier since a SUV could be used also to tow, bigger customer base.

Is one reason I liked my horsetrailer as a bumperpull vs the gooseneck (5'ver). You see those goosenecks sitting on sale lots much longer.

You do lose space in your bed but almost everything I had before in my bed is stored away in the basement of the 5er. I think the ease of towing and hooking and unhooking is way better, also storage and overall space is way better.

I have owned 2 travel trailers prior to the purchase of the fiver. All have been towed with my Dodge RAM CTD pick-up. Within 10 miles of towing the fiver home, I asked myself why I didn't purchse a fiver in the first place prior to the travel trailers. ESPECIALLY since owning a 3/4 ton pick-up. Fivers tow and handle so much better, are much easier to couple since there are no equalizer bars and sway controls, and then, of course, all the extra storage space and living space. Treat yourself to one. You will love it. PCM

I Know we have owned a TT and my husband has had 2 heart attacks and the TT was so much harder to set up and the awful white knuckle driving was the pits with the TT. You do not have with the 5er Pulls like a dream~~My Husband can set up our 37 foot 5er with no help from me in about 15 minutes very easy~~~All of the pros of our 5th wheel definitly out weigh all of Cons of a travel trailer ~`Actually no Comparison our 5er is Like a beautiful Condo On wheels~~~We would never own another TT Ever~~~Sandy

Lots of the above comments are valuable.

I have a 24 ft 5thW, 5,000 dry, 7,000 loaded, tow vehicle is a F150 SCAB with tow package; that's about as much as the F150 can tow in a 5thW style. You do get more storage in a 5er, so we can leave all the gear in the 5er; in our case that is a big advantae(single car garage that I keep filled with junk). You can get a larger TT vs 5er for given size of truck due to the reduced pin weight. If you have need for a 3/4 or 1 ton truck, then a 5er that needs that size truck can make a lot of sense. If you are going to have to get a larger truck that you use regularly just to pull the 5er occasionally, I'd think about a TT instead. With the cost of fuel toady, any larger tow vehicle than needed is a real disadvantage. We're very happy with what we have, but in toady's gas price climate, I might have done it differently.

A lot of the answer is your personal use of the tow vehicle and trailer.

Good Luck,
Doug
