This article was in the Washington Post this morning:
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/07/21/AR2008072102846.html
Montgomery County, MD is the county next to mine. I often go there for shopping and dining out, so this really angers me as an RVer and the owner of a larger pickup truck.
I try to avoid parking my RV on streets just to avoid being hit by other vehicles. But I could see this as being a major inconvenience for RV and pickup owners who don't have driveways.
It strikes me as elitist too, working-class Americans are good enough to build or landscape these homes, but aren't good enough to live in this county.

I know these people.

I can understand their concerns. It's a small street (paid for by taxpayers) and from the pic appears to be very congested. I am not an advocate of people parking their private vehicles on public streets and using it as their personal parking space. We always parked our vehicles in our driveways, garage or stored them in a storage facility.
That being said, in tourist areas where there is no ample parking, I would avoid those places. They are obviously not interested in tourists or they would construct adequate parking.

I must say, I second that.

According to the story, it says he paid $8000 to build an off street parking pad, so he's not even parking on the street. And, the woman who keeps a calendar of when he comes and goes. Geesh, either she is secretly in love with him or she really needs to find a hobby. I love the one that complains that her glasses rattle when he starts it up. I park mine in my driveway about 10 feet from the door and noone inside knows when I start it. Maybe she needs to make some home repairs if her house is that flimsy.

The pic in the article seems to be from a different area than Myrtle Road. HERE is a view of the road with the 'suspect' RV.
Granted, that pic showing all the campers is a bit too much, but who knows where that was taken.......maybe on the side of a park (or other main attraction) that does not have designated RV parking.
Be careful on how the media portrays things......

I can't very well look at this objectively. I do NOT like RVs and trucks parked on the street, nor on front driveways.
I park my MH in my backyard.

I can understand the locale residents complaining. What I can't understand is the "ME and I" attitude of those people making the complaints.
My daughter lives in Reston VA. It's not a place I would enjoy to live. She loves it. She also a book of rules and regulations on for living in Reston.
There the it seems the people realized they needed a place for the toys so to say and they didn't want them in there drive ways or streets. There they provide a gated area where you can park your trailer, RV, boats and what have U's. They must be registered and inspected so it doesn't turn into a junk yard. But they made a rule and made concessions for the rule.
But I also understand the communities where they are banned (I am not at the present time). Know they also pay taxes and in many hide forms. Like road tax every time I buy gas, every time Pay a toll, every time I buy new hose for the RV there is a sales tax, the annual Registration fee. I won't mind so much but this money goes into a general fund is used to support the same roads I would not allowed to park on. Sounds a little uneven to me, and I feel if a community wish to ban or restrict my rights then they should provide an alternative that would be for the betterment or equal treatment to both sides of the argument.
