I live in a city where there is no on street parking of RV's, boat trailers, etc for over a certain amount of time. I have to say that I agree with the ban. I have lived with people that parked a boat trailer in front of my house, when they had room in front of their house (none of their vehicles on the street). Told there was nothing the city could do, etc.

However, I draw the line at saying RVs or boats whatever can't be parked on the property of an owner at all.

What has not been mentioned in this thread although it was in a previous thread on this same subject, was that because most HOAs banned RV and commerical truck parking and the county allowed it, residents of HOAs were driving to another neighborhood and parking on their streets. In practice they were getting free storage at the expense of the people who lived on that street. Many people were unable to park anywhere near their own home because of all of the RVs lined up on their street not to mention the difficulty fire and rescue vehicles had on some older streets. That was one of the factors that led to the proposed bill banning RV parking.

We spent a few months last year living/working in Prince Geo. County, MD. It was hard to negotiate some of the narrow residential streets in the area with our F450. Parking in the street was quite common all over MD.

We went by one City/County Park where all the vehicles shut down one of the lanes on the 4-lane road. Driving the F450 through downtown Annapolis was really a treat. No one used crosswalks and would step right out in front of our truck.

I've never heard that an urban street residential or commercial as the proper place for a 5 year old to ride her bike. Parks or sidewalks are for the walkers and joggers and 5 year olds. Streets are for vehicles.

Lets get one thing straight, streets and roadways are designed for vehicular operations. One part of vehicular operations is parking. If the streets are to narrow for parking, how about fixing that issue. Don't start with banning parking. As taxpayers, we have been paying for city, county, state and federal services for ever and we get 'no parking' in return. It is time for those that run government to quit squandering our tax dollars and start upgrading or at least maintaining our infrastructure to support a modern lifestyle.

I left Colorado for many of these reason. Mostly because way too many people from Colorado live there, and they seem to have the same elitist attitude. I return to the state on occasion, and park my RV on the street in an area with a "HOA" restriction. City code does not restrict parking RVs on the street, so I smile very nice, and tell the silly lady "when you can show me a LEGAL restriction, I will comply, until then, please annoy someone else."

I really don't care if anyone stores their vehicles in a manor that they think everyone else should. These are just people to ignore when possible, and abuse when necessary.

I guess if you move into a area where there is an HOA that stipulates what you can and cannot do you have nothing to kick about. If however you live in an area and they start trying to force you to do what you have never had to do I can certainly see the rebellion. Sounds like time for a "grandfather clause" to be instituted. Either that or the ones offended could feel free to move.

These type of stories are why I bought in the country. It sure was nice earlier this morning to go out into my RV designated parking area and get in my MH and drive it into town and fuel it up and get it inspected and licensed. Then drive it back home and back right into that designated spot, drop the levelers and plug it in until I decide to use it again or just go out and putter around in it if I choose.

And I might add my neighbors drive by and wave at me while I'm out there puttering.

Is the issue safety, or aesthetics? I suspect the latter. We live in a rural area of great natural beauty. Some of our neighbors have junk cars in their yard. Do I enjoy seeing them? Not particularly. Do they have the right? Absolutely!! Thank God some personal freedom still exists in this country!

Retiredbutworking, I would think that a vehicle that is parked is not in "operation." A parked vehicle has the potential to obstruct the actual purpose of the roadway, which is to facilitate the movement of the vehicle from one place to another.

To be fair, if it is really about safety, the county should be considering banning on-street parking of all vehicles that block the view, including large SUVs and vans.

I know of a number of way upscale communities, and some other not so plush cities, that simply ban all on-street parking, overnight. In the former, I know of one that allows no overnight parking in driveways, outside the setback line. But these, at least, are consistent in what they control, without the "us versus
trash" focus coming out in the comments in this article.

I contend that if a vehicle parked on the street some how deters other motorists from safely operating then the street is not properly designed or maintained.
