At our last home, one day I pulled our TT and truck around to the front of our home to load up for a weekend. It was there all of 10 minutes and I got an angry pounding on the side of the trailer as I was inside putting food in the fridge.

I opened the window on that side of the rig to find a very aggitated irritated guy who walked from the house directly across from us, demanding in abusive mean words that I must move my rig immediatly as I was blocking the access to his driveway? He lived ACROSS the street? I was in the legal parking portion of my side of the street, across from his driveway?

I had never met this person before, I thought a gal lived there. I told him I was legally parked, but would be gone in a half hour once I was loaded. He blew up! SCREAMED at me that I was breaking the law and pounded again on the side of my trailer! I cranked my window shut and locked the door and quietly waited till he walked back to his house.

I went in my house and called the police. They came immediately. I explained what happened. They went to talk to the hot head. Turns out he was only a visiting boyfriend of the gal in the house, had no steam at all to his complaints and they told him to cool off and advised him that I could press charges for his assault on my camper!

That was the end of it, or so I thought. We went camping and came home to some big scuttlebutt gossip in the neighborhood. Turns out the guy went ballistic on the girlfriend too that night and was hauled off in cuffs after a standoff with the cops that lasted wayyyy into the morning hours. Guess our street was clogged up with cop cars and news crews for most of the day and night.

Wonder if he was bothered by the cop cars and news vans parked out across the street from his house then?

Now we moved to the country, and the only thing across the road from us is a corn field.

The Equal Protection Clause, part of the Fourteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution, provides that "no state shall… deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws."

Everyone seems to be fixated on the one picture. It was just an example and probably a bad one of the problem. It boils down, in many cases, in Montgomery Country, that people buy high dollar homes in exclusive neighborhoods and their HOA doesn't allow RV or commerical truck parking so they simply drive to another neighborhood and park in front of someone elses house. Soon those streets without HOAs are full of RVs and trucks.

The picture they showed doesn't even appear to be on the street they mention in the article. While I agree that people parking in other neighborhoods to avoid their HOA is a problem and should be addressed with those people. They should not harass the guy who is parked off the street at his own house on a legal parking pad that was probably approved by the building commissioner. And, if he is parked on a parking pad, he's not in the street and therefore should not be the subject of this article.

I still have not figured out the attraction some must have to live in the Socialist Republic of Montgomery County. Half hour of research into the county's government and tax rates, crime statistics quickly resulted in it being erased from my list of possible residency. Wackiest county in an already wacko state.

Our city has a ban on parking in the street that only applies to our subdivision. We can park an RV or boat anywhere on our own property as long as it is on an approved surface such as gravel or concrete. We store our motorhome at the local RV dealer but it does come home often. We park it in our driveway in front of the house. In the past ten years only one neighbor has complained to us. She was upset that we had our RV at home and she was told she could not park hers at her home. Once I explained to her that she could park it at home on an approved surface, they put in a concrete pad and now happily park it at home. My neighbors only comments to me when we have the RV at home is to inquire where we are going this time and they wish they could join us. None of them have reported our motorhome as an eyesore and would certainly not consider a new Wanderlodge as an eyesore.

I'm glad our community has not implemented any crazy ordinances. I don't mind being told I can't park on the street but it really irks me when elitists try to tell me what I can do with my own driveway. If anyone wants to tell me what to park in my private driveway they need to start making my house payment first.

Is there anyone else besides myself that is the least concerned with the safety issue? We babble about our "right" to park anywhere we want to, moan about "beauty is in the eye of the beholder" and testy neighbors but the fact is, if you are trying enter a street or back out of your driveway and your view is blocked by someone's motorhome, TT, SUV, or pickup, you are endangered and so is everyone using the street. One of the most basic responsibilities of any govenment is public safety. Based on safety alone, RV's, and large vehicles should not be parked on the street--ever.

No.

If there were, they could call the local law enforcement to ticket the offending parking vehicles.

When my RV is parked in our driveway, our vision is blocked when we back our van out. We back out very slowly so that if someone is coming they can see us and stop or toot the horn and we will stop. It's not a safety issue if people use common sense. So far we have never been in an accident or caused anyone to feel unsafe.
