Why is this not a restrictor plate race? Listening to Speed TV last night Mikey and Chad kept talking about exceeding 200 mph easily. Isn't nascar trying to prevent this on the 2 mile plus tracks?

Pocono is a 2 1/2 mile track with speed over 200mph at the end of the front straight like Indy . Indy has four turns that keeps the lap speeds 10mph lower than many shorter tracks like Atlanta and Texas.
NASCAR Track Qualifying laps:
Atlanta:197.478mph
Texas: 196.235mph
Indy: 185.293mph
Michigan: 194.232mph
Lowe's: 193.216mph

BTW California and Chicago track records are 188+mph, also faster than Indy.

I heard that it was due to the tight corners. The racecars have to slow down for the corners too much, and with restrictors it would hurt the quality of the show because of the poor acceleration out of the corner (turn).
BTW I'll take Stewart, Gordon, Johnson and Rowdy,....against the field.

The faster the better is the only way to determine the true winner. Just say no to restrictor plates on super speedways. These drivers know they're involved in a dangerous way of making a living. Bunching up is what makes it dangerous, not the faster cars. Let 'em go racin' !

Actually, they are free to go race any ole way they want, but not within NASCAR. The way it works, NASCAR sets the rules, if it's a NASCAR race.
Are there any rules in other sports? How do they do it over there?
Fans and racers always wanted to set the rules at my racetrack, so I finally sold it to them (3 of them). It only solved my problem, and now it's THEIR problem. I'm retired,....

Off topic... I read that the Brickyard had 50,000 vacant seats, last year, and are expecting more this year. WOW!

The original agreement between the Speedway and NASCAR contained a restrictive clause which assured that the number of seats sold would be limited such that the Brickyard 400 would never be bigger than the Indy 500.
But, the way the economy of the country is going, it seems to me that the 'problem' will take care of itself.
PLUS, the TV coverage has gotten so good that I prefer to enjoy the races in the comfort of my own home. For me, there's no incentive for me to pay a fortune for "the roar of the engines and the smell of the crowd".....

There must be a bunch of empty seats...I got a call from the Speedway on an auto-dialer..when I answered it was a canned message from Jeff Gordon telling that there were still plenty of good seats available for the event. I went once and it was okay...don't think I'll go back though...it just didn't hold my interest and to me wasn't worth fighting the crowd/traffic to get in or out.
In person, stock cars seem very slow at Indy. I'm with Willie...I'll watch on TV.
I do plan on going down to at least watch the motorcycles run/practice just for the novelty of it...That way I'll at least have the experience of watching all 4 types of motorsports that have run there. Indycar, Nascar, F1 and GP Motorcycles.
Sure wish they'd get a ALMS race there...talk about your COOOOOL cars!

Wow...Robin Miller reports that at last check there were 50,000 available pieces of aluminum available for Sunday's Brickyard event.....Looks like you can get a ticket for cheap if you want one.
