While camping in a provincial park last week, a large party pulled in beside us. Grandma, Grandpa four adult children and a couple grand kids under 3. Very hot out. Mini van and truck and 26ft 5er. Grampa(50ish) driving truck and could not have ever backed a trailer up before because he did not know which way to turn the wheels. One hour of trying to back into a huge double site voices are getting really loud, door is slamming everyone in the party is telling him how it is to be done, and none of them I don't believe had even seen a trailer before. My DW kept telling me to go over and help, but there was a real haustile feeling coming from this lady and I didn't want any of it. An older gent walked by and asked driver if he could give him a hand and the drive say yes, with a few other words around it. First off he told him to take a breath, now you have to turn your wheels the other way then you have to turn sharper, you wont break anything and low and behold the trailer started creepig around into the site then the wife started yelling I don't want this trailer here your wheels are the wrong way, move here move there. Kind gent said nothing more and walked away. 1hr 45 mins later 1 picnic table hit the poor driver finally good said enough and left it where it sat. And yes it stayed hitched to the truck their entire stay. I just thought I would share this poor mans pain with you all.

You know a few hundred years ago they had a device for wives like the one you mentioned. It was a metal cage that went over the head and held the mouth shut, it also had a gag device mounted in it. Perhaps are forefathers were better off then we are today. I don't know, you be be the judge.
I would have gotten out of the truck after ten minuets or so and handed the keys to the person making the loudest verbal racket. JMHO Bill

That could make you grumpy for the rest of the day. DW and I always work as a team. She always gets out to watch our tail and direct me into the best spot. She helps with the setup as well.

Apparently the driver is use to this kind of verbal abuse and bossing around. Knowing my DH if I'd told him to move it after it was parked, the trailer just might have ended up parked on top of me, okay so maybe he'd just think about (he'd be justified though) I don't turn down help for myself or DH and I pray that I wouldn't be as rude as this group sounds. And thankfully most campers are helpful and polite.

Something I learned many years ago that will really help those that are having problems grasping what needs to be done to get a trailer to go where they want it to go when backing. If you see someone having trouble and you think they might be open to a helpful suggestion tell them this.
Grip the steering wheel at the BOTTOM-look in the mirror and move their hand the direction they want the trailer to go. Hand moves left-trailer goes left. Hand goes right-trailer goes right. Works every time.

It's really funny how some women boss thier man around. I had 2 friends like that. They are no longer my friends due to thier wives couldn't tolerate them when we all got together. My wife and I have been married for decades, and NEVER bossed one or the other around. I couldn't put up with a person like that. And I'm sure she couldn't put up with a person like that either.
I kinda feel sorry for the poor bastard, with her yelling and screaming at the top of her lungs at him just to show the whole campground she is in control.
Sad. To think of how much smoother things would have gone if "she let" someone help him back in.
Whats even worse is the people driving this rigs out there who don't have a clue. Both recipes for disaster.

25 years ago, when that man got married, he knew he'd finally met Miss right. What he didn't realize was that her first name was Always.
When I picked up my open single car trailer at Spring Carlisle, a crowd gathered. Apparently there is nothing more interesting than watching someone hook up a car trailer and maneuver around the classic cars for sale.
I was being even more cautious than usual for obvious reasons. I didn't want to hit any cars!
This was a sign of weakness to the gathering mob (think about the dumping scene from the movie, RV). Everyone was watching and giving advice, which only made me more nervous and go even slower.
I only wanted 1 person (who I had asked) to help me out. Then, on my way out, I was still being cautious around corners, which led to more "helpful" advice.
I should have just shut the windows and cranked the stereo.

last summer we witnessed a similar type scenario, not quite as long and drawn out as yours, but still I felt for this poor fellow.
Once they got the TT backed in they proceeded to try to put the awning out. This was a brand new Jayco TT, very nice. The lady gets the hook out and sticks it in the pull strap. No latch has been released and no arms have been unlocked, and she starts pulling. I started over and was trying to stop her before she broke something but her DH got to her and made the attempt first. She bowed up in his face and proceeded to tell him how she knew what she was doing and her language was not pretty. She had already berated this poor man for a good 20-30 minutes while he backed the TT in and I really felt sorry for him. Not to mention there were 2 small children present who I guess had heard this so much they appeared oblivious to the ranting and cursing.
Makes me ever more thankful for the near perfect little woman God blessed me with. Of course she got blessed with me so we're even.

I have to absolutely love my wife when I here stories like this one. She always lets me go get set up first, then she arrives with the kids. I took a turn too sharp the other day and received a good scratch in the sidewall from a stop sign. When I told her about it she was in total disbelief. She said, "You're the most careful driver I know"
Every day I spend with her I love her more. A good mate can make all the difference.
