We're going up to Montana next week. We're not taking any toys, just the trailer. Can anyone recommend a good place to stay up there?

We're going to try to blast up there in two days. Google Maps shows it as a 20 hour drive from LA. My wife wants me to tackle a big chunk of that on the first day, so that means maybe Pocatello, ID, for the first night? That's a big drive from home. I hope nobody has to pee.

So where are the good spots to camp near the park? I'd like a campground that's fun for the kids if possible (pool, etc.). My pop always did his best to find us kids camp spots that AAA listed as having a pool and pinball.

We're also thinking about doing a whitewater rafting day trip. Any recommendations?

I love Glacier Park. I camped there every year when I was young; but it was on the Canadian side (Waterton Park). Sorry I can't help you, except to tell you that it is awesome up there.

Have fun, take lots of pictures.

Dave I was looking at going up to GNP, I'll try and dig out some of my info that I had put aside, I also have a staff member that grew up in Montana that can give some good input usually, I'll ask her about rafting trips.

What route are you going to take coming up North?

We were there a couple of years ago. We stayed in the Mountain Meadows Campground in Hungry Horse, Montana. Nice RV park with a trout pond for the kids. It's a short drive to Glacier NP and there were several rafting companies along the road into the park. It should also be the closest point to SoCal.

Hey, GNP is in my backyard. The only place real close that I can think of that meets your requirments is the West Glacier KOA. It has a pool, couple of hot tubs, and arcade. It is minutes away from all the rafting companys and park entrance. The going to the sun road is under construction so be ready for some delays. Otherwise have fun.

We stayed at the West Glacier KOA last year, loved it. Its 3-4 minutes to the park entrance. There is a cookie at the KOA that does Flat Iron steaks every night, I recommend you get their early and take part. They also have a pool, hot tub, arcade, playground, and an ice cream stand.

One more thing to add. Your in luck, we finally had a real winter up here so the river is running at a good level for a fun float down the middle fork, so make sure you are ready to get wet!

We stayed at the west Glacier Campground. 3 weeks ago. We loved it. The people that run the place are really nice. It is actually closer than the KOA. I'm sure that you will find both fully capable to accomodate your hauler.
