My question to those who wrote that it is unsafe is, how is it any less safe than, say, for horses in a horse trailer. I am assuming like the original poster that the dogs would be secured in their kennels in the trailer and the windows are open.

Well, in a horse trailer it is much more open. While you have windows in a TT, they aren't as many and do not provide as much ventilation. Plus, technically, some of those windows (most in fact) are not supposed to be opened durning travel (according to the manufacturer's)

Specifically which windows and what manufacturers.... sounds like a load of BS to support a position.

Well well well...no need to get testy over it....My point was that even with windows open, it's not enough venting on hot days....in addition to my point, I remarked about manufacturers (but that wasn't the main point)...both my Star Craft Antiqua and my Keystone Passport have had stickers on the windows stating that they should be closed during travel. Don't now what your's have said or not said, but mine sure did.

I have sat in the trailer with my 2 dogs, while hubby turned trailer around or moved a little forward, or backward and it absolutely terrified my dogs with the trailer bouncing and rumbling. We also witnessed an accident 6 months ago where the trailer flipped, we think speed on the corner caused it, and everyone in the vehicle was fine, altho shaken up, but the trailer was toast ! Any animal in there would be dead. Leave him at home with relatives, if you dont have room or at the very least, a safe way to include him.

I would have a ride around the block in the trailer myself to get a sense of the noise and shake factors. If it didn't seem too bad and my dog wasn't the nervous type I would not have a problem crating my dog back there.... open the vents and check regularly. Heat is an issue in the back of a pick up truck as well - personally I find it cooler in the trailer than outside.

My philosophy is this, room in TV for dog..........he goes with the pack. No room in TV for dog..........he stays with my parents, or inlaws and becomes part of their pack for the time we are away. Personally we've never run into the problem of not having room for the dog. In th future when we have kids, we will still include our dog and make sure that there is room in the TV for him to ride too. I woulnd't put him in a crate in the trailer or loose in the trailer. Dogs are pack animals and prefer to be with their own pack...........but sometimes a surrogate pack is better than being uncomfortable while going with the pack.............

Everyone here assumes that we either a. have family we can pass him on to, or b. have a family that would be willing to watch him...a dog is not just something you drop off with people and say here, watch him...having him for a weekend would greatly effect their freedom to do what they want to!

I think we should all just wait for our state and federal politicians to solve this issue for us, because if they were to look into this forum it would be obvious that people can't decide what is right for them selves.
