I am going to hook my Prodigy brake controller up in my 2002 chevy 1500. It has the factory 7-pin trailer plug and harness installed. My question is where do I find the Wires from the 7-pin harness under the dash?, especially the blue electric brake wire? I looked but didn't see anything, hoping someone can steer me in the right direction, once I locate them the job will be done in a few minutes. Thanks

On the left hand side under the dash, there's a black plastic box.

Get the truck specific plug for your model truck, make sure it is for your truck as they changed it in 03 or 04 and then plug that in under the dash near your left foot, there is a block to plug it in and it will all work...

I believe you also have to put a 30amp fuse in fuse box under the hood. there should be a pink covered false fuse in there from the factory.

Just brought home an '01 Suburban and found the OEM wiring harness. Just have a question about hooking it up to my Tekonsha Voyager controller.
The harness has the following wires:

DK BLU - BRK OUT 14AWG
RED - FUSE B+ 14AWG
LT BLU - BRK SIG 18AWG
BLK - BRK GND 18AWG
BRN - ILLUM 18AWG

Controller wiring:

BLACK - Positive battery
WHITE - Negative battery
RED - Cold side of stoplight switch
BLUE - Brake output to trailer

So, any idea on which wire goes to which? The Tekonsha info says that a minimum of 14AWG wires should be used, and the OEM harness has some 18AWG - problem? I was thinking of picking up a Tekonsha harness to make it a no brainer, but I'm guessing I'd still have to use the 30A fuse that the OEM harness came with?

This is probably child's play for most, but we're planning on heading out tomorrow night and I have a "list this long" to get ready and want to make sure this is sorted out correctly. Thanks for your patience.

That is ONLY if you want to charge your trailer batteries off the truck while on the road.

Brakes work fine without that fuse.

It's a little late to be setting this all up now. I'd bite the bullet and just get the pre-wired harness from your local camper dealer, but...

This should also be in it's own thread since this is a completely separate question, but...

There are only four connections:
FUSE B+ = Fused Battery + = Battery Positive
BRK OUT = Brake output = Brake output to trailer
BRK SIG = Brake signal = Cold side of stoplight switch (the switch controls the brake signals, i.e. the brake lights)
BRK GND = Brake ground = Battery Negative

$16.00 at Buffalo RV for a Chevy to "plug-n-play" brake controller cable. It plugged into the trucks factory box under the dash and into the Prodigy controller! Less than two minutes and it was done. It took longer to mount the bracket for the controller. Thank you for the posts and steering me in the right direction again. I never imagined it would be so simple!
