(Assuming you are using Works version 8.5) and have the same Road Trip Log that I have)...

Click on an empty line in the spreadsheet (be sure to click on the row header on the far left to highlight the entire row), go to the insert menu and insert a row (or click the right button on your mouse). If you insert a row at say the 17th row down or anywhere prior to the summation row, the formulas will re-calculate to include that row. Be sure to enter your beginning mileage from the last fill up for each trip in the "Initial odometer reading" or it will include all miles since "0". Be careful not to enter anything into columns G or H or you will overwrite the formulas in those columns.

You can create a new spreadsheet for each trip, or just keep adding rows.

Hope this helps.

Bryan

Ooops, forgot to add that you will need to copy the formulas in columns G & H. Click in column G and drag to column H to highlight both columns in any existing row. Go to the Edit menu, click on copy, then go to column G in your new inserted row, click in that cell, go to the edit menu, click on paste.

There are quicker ways, but this is the most straightforward. Those of us that have been around spreadsheets for awhile use the "CTRL C" to copy and "CTRL V" to paste.

Also, I noticed that some of the formatting is incorrect. Example, the average miles per gallon is formatted in $. Just click on that cell, go to the Format menu, click on Number and select Number. I would set the decimal places to 2.

Good luck

You go girl! I am coming from the same direction. I started to make up my own log and everytime I use it I realize I should have laid it out differently. Does anyone have a good format?

I have been using spreadsheets for travel logging for 20 years, and just made up a sample one with ms works that works fine. I used works ss in '99 on a cross country trip that I still have except moving on 5 different computers messed up some of the formulas, that is the reason for a simple sample one.
I've created my own with different SS over the years and just make a new one when I leave and format it to the type and length of trip.
If you send your email I'll send you a copy of the file.

IMHO MS Works is like driving a Chevy in the Indianapolis 500. What do you have against Excel or is there a learning curve here?

for something this simple, why should she buy a copy of Excel?

Years ago there was a spreadsheet like you want on the NATCOA site (North American Truck Camper Owners Association). I did not join NATCOA so did not receive the template but it was available. Maybe a NATCOA member knows more information about it. You put in your miles and price per gallon paid and it kept track of mpg etc.

When we started RVing a couple years ago, I did a lot of poking around and tried building a couple of spreadsheets and even an Access database project to do what you're looking for. Wound up spending a couple bucks on Rver's Notebook, which does more that I need. It's actually an Access database front end, but comes with an Access runtime so you don't need to have MS Office.

I should have a spreadsheet pretty close to what you are wanting. It is in excel but I should be able to easily port it over to works when I get home. Sent you an email, when I get a reply from you, will be able to send you the file.

First of all ..... He is a she.

Honestly, sometimes you guys make me sorry that I even asked for information, recommendations or opinions. Why do some of you have to get up an attitude?

No, it is not a learning curve issue. It is more of a laziness issue.
In the past I have worked with Excel but I don't currently have it on either of my computers and honestly it has been awhile since I have worked with any spreadsheet. No doubt I'm pretty rusty. Honestly I was hoping that there was a good one out there, that someone would recommend and pass on so that I wouldn't have to mess with the formulas.

I do have WORKS and asked if anyone uses the installed program (I believe it is called road trip log) and was asking if anyone uses it and if you do would recommend it? I simply hoped that one of you might have a program that you liked and were willing to share.

Well she... I'd like to thank you for getting the discussion started... I can barely follow sled tracks and I saw it as opportunity.

You might still get your answer and the rest of us will have an opportunity to learn.

My truck calculates about everything I've needed to know over the last 40,000 miles.

I would like to see what some of you have put together in Excel.

If you don't mind, would someone send me a copy of their spreadsheet file?

Thanks,
PJ
