We need to find a decent campground for an overnight on the way up to Minnesota after Labor Day. We'll be traveling along I-90/94 and would like to stop somewhere between Mauston and Sparta, not too far off the Interstate, if possible. We've stayed at the KOA in Oakdale, but it's gotten some bad reviews lately and we don't know about staying there again. Does anyone have any suggestions for that area? All replies will be appreciated.
Thanks!

HIGHLY recommend Stone Creek CG in Osseo, WI on I 94. Great family campground. I would recommend a day or two stop.

For an overnight stay I wouldn't be too concerned about the quality of the campground; a week? then I would be concerned. What you really want is a campground that has an open site for the day you arrive.

If you wanted to stay this side of the Dells, Smokey Hollow or the Madison KOA are very nice!

How was your previous stay at that campground? just remember that there are some folks here who will badmouth a KOA at the slightest provocation. bumpy

I'll second the recomendation for Stoney Creek in Osseo. We have stayed there twice. It is very nice and easy access to the highway.

Old Bird recommended Stoney Creek to us and I can't thank him enough, we were so pleased. In fact, the kids didn't want to leave in the morning....

Kinda made our destination CG for the week after pale by comparison!

I know it's slightly further on 94 than you requested but I doubt you'd be dissapointed.

You might try Fort McCoy which is located around Sparta. I here they have a nice campground there.

I would avoid Mill Bluff SP though (in the same general area). Pretty location, but freight trains go RIGHT BY the CG frequently, and since there's a crossing, blow their horns each time they pass! We camped there in a PUP a number of years ago and got no sleep!!

Devil's Lake CG is probably one of the nicest state park CGs I've stayed at. We were going to be there this year, except the flooding took care of our plans. Things are O.K. there now. Close enough to the Dells to do things, yet far enough away to not be a tourist trap so to speak.
