I need some help learning how to use a convection oven. I know nothing about one. Do I need special pans for it? Help!!!!

No specail pots or pans. It's used mostly for bakeing. But a lot use it for every thing. Use the same temps, just cut your cooking time by 1/2 to 1/3, each over is a little different. If you bake a cake so say, you can use tooth picks like you mom did, that will tell you when then done. Note the time, and the time it would have taken in a conventional over. You can use this time as your base.

I use regular baking pans and baking dishes. The book that came with mine said that it bakes from the sides like a regular oven and from the top like a microwave which is why you can use metal pans. Just remember to reduce the temp your recipe calls for about 25 degrees and that whatever your baking will bake in about 3/4 ths the time. After I got used to using it, I love mine!

Don't panic! 
A lot of trailers built now don't even have "regular" ovens, convections are awesome...the only drawback is they run on electric instead of propane, but if you don't boondock, no big deal.
If your's is like most, it has a microwave, a convection setting, and a combination setting.
Microwave setting is just that, normal microwave.
Convection setting is oven alone, very similar to a normal oven, a bit quicker.
Combination is a blend of both.
You don't need special pans, don't have a clue why, but metal is fine.
First meal, try a big chicken rubbed in butter/oil, sprinkle your favorite dry-rub and use convection only...the circulating fan browns poultry better than anything I've tried, you'll love it!
Edit...the fan is in the back of the oven, so do rotate what you're cooking a couple of times for even browning.

If my receipe called for 1 hr at 350, that's what I did in the convection. Always worked for me. Usually used aluminum throw-a-way pans or in a rare situation, a square baking dish. Baked cakes, whatever. Never did try a turkey or ham, tho. Made my share of frozen pizza's.. always turned out good.

Most of the mfs have ccokbooks for their convection/microwaves. You can finf them on e-bay or Barns & Noble.

Yes you should. The metal ones might just damage the microwave side. Some of the newer microwaves are not as critcal. But check the owners manual just to be sure. Bill

Be sure to read your cookbook that came with the oven and maybe reread a second time. If you are ever at a rally that has a class be sure and take it.
This is what I do. If I'm baking muffins I HIT the PREHEAT button and put in the temperature I want to bake at. When the oven is preheated I than HIT the CONVEC button and put in the temperature, time I'm going to bake the muffins and put the rack in and set the pan of muffins on the rack, shut the door and hit BAKE/Cook. Then when I bake the second pan I will hit Convec again and set the time and put in the second pan and bake.
The preheat only does just that and will shut off the heat after the temperature you set it at has been reached.. So you must reset the heat with the Convec.
At home I bake my muffins at 350 degrees for 24 min. In the convection oven I bake them at 350 degrees for 19 min. This works for me.
