We are looking at towing vehicles and have found a '07 Dodge 3500, Big Horn Edition with a 6.7 Cummins. It's tow ready. It's diesel but has the optional biodeisel too. Anybody know anything about pulling a TT with biodeisel fuel? I know very little about biodiesel other than the fact that a guy in our town makes his own from his garage...seriously.

My son-in-law farms 2,000 acres of beans and corn. Big booster for biodiesel. But he doesn't burn it in his $150,000 diesel tractors. Hmmmmmm?

Nothing wrong with biodiesel. It runs quieter and has a very slight decrease in energy. Factory warranty will be shot if you run 100% and they find out about it. We make our own, no problems to date and it only costs about $1.20 a gallon (and time to go get used oil).

Towin'-
Do you notice a difference when pulling your RV using the biodiesel rather than the diesel? What kind of RV do you have? We will probably use diesel most of the time but I was wondering how hard it is to switch over? Is there just a switch somewhere in the cab of the truck? Does the diesel fuel and biodiesel fuel all go in the same tank or are there two separate tanks?

When running WVO, separate tanks are required. When running bio no additional tanks are required. That being said, my biggest concern with bio is water. With bio, I don't trust the factory water in fuel separator. When water gets through it's free to attack the untreated metal fuel lines. Bio also has a lower BTU count. You're welcome to my share of Bio. I think Bio is an expensive failed experiment. Also, be careful who you advertise about your homemade brew. No road taxes have been paid on it. There have been isolated instances of individuals getting fined for lack of license and/or tax.

Absolutely don't run bio with any 08'+ diesel. Even store bought Bio.

Wife filled up Excursion the other day at a station that is selling bio-diesel blend. We took off the take the TT to Camping World for service about 60 miles away. This this through some rolling country as well as few long climbs. Big Red Bus just did not seem to have the power it normally did. I made a comment about it and she then told me about where she filled up and asked if that would make a difference. Seems to be the only explanation. Trip last month with non bio-diesel BRB towed like a champ! No more towing for me with bio in the tank if I can help it.

Sad thing about this is the fact that the station selling this used to be a good source of fuel at a good price, now they sell bio-blend and are the highest priced station around.

From reading this post I have to say it sounds like bio-diesel affects power like ethanol in gas does. I have a 2003 Chevy Tahoe with the 5.3 V-8 gas engine. I recently did a cross country trip from CA to NC to AL and back to CA. When I filled up at those stations that advertised 10% ethanol, my mileage went down as did my power. I only pull a 5100 pound travel trailer and was not happy with the blend vs power.

Okay, so based on what I am reading, it sounds like if we should choose the 'o7 3500 Dodge dually we need to stay away from bio. If we can find a used one with 60 pt. inspection and written statement from dealer saying that there has been no fuel contamination, would this be a safe TV for our 34 ft. TT? It has a 6 sp. trans. with a 6.7L Cummins. I know there were some problems with this engine at first but if this one checks out at the dealership and we have our mechanic check it out too, would we be okay? Safety is our primary concern.

I have a 2007 Dodge Dually Big Horn package. I love the truck- the power is awesome. I have had only two issues during the year that I have owned the truck. One was the egr valve sooted up and had to be cleaned. The other happened about a month later - the turbo sooted up and had to be cleaned. The Dealership told me that I had been idling the truck too long (anything over about 2 minutes). The dealership told me too drive the truck like I had stolen it. It has a 6sp auto- I now drive it in town in 5th gear to keep the rpm's up. The truck puller our 5er like it is not even behind the truck. Very satisfied! Never tried to bio -- do not plan to.

I have used 20% biodiesel in my truck on several occasions both towing and empty. I saw no difference in power or mileage both towing or empty when running the biodiesel. If it was easier to find I would probably use it more often.
