Some of the screws holding the lock cover to the inside of the fiberglass storage doors have worked loose and worked the holes wider.

After kicking themselves for failing to tighten the screws earlier, what do folks use to "narrow" the holes so the new screws get some bite?

I was thinking just a little dab of caulk.

caulk won't do it. if you can drill through and use nuts/bolts, that would be best. but if that is not an option, try filling the holes with fiberglass epoxy resin, and drill new holes.

Use little plastic tips like they use to hold lag bolts in concrete. You can get them in all sizes at any home improvement store. Tap the plastic tip in then screw the doors back on.

Harbor Freight sells a SCREW HOLE REPAIR KIT. Hundreds of teeth bite into the screw and wood for a perfect fit. I would guess that if it works in wood, it should work in fiberglass.

a couple wooden toothpicks dipped in wood glue will do the job nicely.

I did the same as bldrbuck. I removed all of the screws and filled with JBWeld. Gave it a day to set up and redrilled. Then put the screws back in. They fit TIGHT and have not come loose yet.

I had to do the screws that hold the plate that connects to the pneumatic lift cylinder. The manufacturer of our motorhome thought that three screws on each plate would be sufficient. NOT! The plate was drilled for (at least) 7 (I forget the exact number). I drilled new holes for the rest of the holes and filled THOSE with the JBWeld as well, then redrilled them with a slightly smaller drill. Again, the screws went it with something to bite into. After 3 years, not a single loose screw.

Good Luck,

I use the toothpick idea. (toothpicks dipped in glue)

A little bigger? meat marinade skewers...

more strength? use bamboo meat skewers (glued)

more strength? drill the hole a bit larger and install "hardwood" dowels (again glued) - I keep a selection of dowels from 1/8" to 1/2" on the vehicle, although I haven't needed them yet on this RV, I used to use a lot of them on the old RV and my "brother-in-laws" RV (he travels with us frequently)

If you're still pulling them out after that, consider embedding metal plates (recessed surface or slot the material if you have the right equipment)

Caulk only "AFTER" you've correctly repaired the hole and re-drilled it (don't fracture the "repair material")
