I'm thinking seriously of installing a satellite based internet system on my trailer so that I can have reliable internet service while we are in Mexico - I need to stay in touch with business interests.
Before committing to the satellite system I thought I would ask for comments about the quality of the wifi service at Tlaquepaque RV Park (El Refugio) in Lo de Marcos, where we are booked in for a couple of months.
Is it reliable, or, like many wifi services in Mexico, regularly out of service and problematic? Is it fast, or not much better than dial-up? Is it included in the monthly rent? Are there dead spots in the park, making it necessary to carry your laptop near to an antenna? Any other observations or comments?
Well, ED, as with anything YMMV. We are also returning there this year. Last year we were in site A2, this year we are in site A12. We never had a problem with the wifi at all. I think it may have gone down once or twice in the 4 months we were there. One of those times it was because somebody ripped out the phone line down the street. Their service is DSL. We had friends in the back forty who also never complained about their wifi service either. So good luck.

Thanks for that input Chrispy, but is the wifi INCLUDED in the monthly rent? Also, is Chrispy the only person on this forum who has ever stayed at Tlaquepaque? It would be nice to get some confirmations from people elsewhere in the park, thanks.
Gee, sorry Ed, we visit, but don't stay, there every year and I have never thought to ask. Knowing what the park charges, I'd expect it to be included, but thats another querry unasked.
There is another solution to your dilemma, the wi-fi antenna that's available for use to pick up unsecured signals, good for up to ten miles away, Line of Sight. Sound too good to be true? I've seen it in action at 6 miles away with excellent results.
Thanks daveB110 for the reminder about that wifi antenna. A friend of mine has one and will be demonstrating it to me in August. I'll soon see if it is as good as claimed.
Hey Ed. Were just down the road from you in Vernon. Generally we find the wifi in Mexico more available and reliable than in the US but we use an RVwifi antenna like the one you see on either of our rigs. Here is a little blurb and link to more information.
We were able to find free signals almost everywhere and were able to connect to most park services without having to go to the office. Works for us.
Thank you John and Angela. I was aware of the Radio Labs RV antenna, but I note from your website that you chose the marine version because of the mount. Thanks for that information.
This thread has turned into an interesting discussion about wifi solutions, but I'd still like to hear from anyone who has additional info about Tlaquepaque, whether the wifi is included in the price and any other comments
The item I saw was from a Chicoutimi, QC, manufacturer, much less expensive than Radiolabs' likely due to not having the base tripod come with it. I now own one but have yet to take delivery so haven't yet tried it, no reason to unless we're on the road.
Will try to contact our friends, Ed, and get better information on the Los de Marcos park. Obviously, the antenna needs an unsecured wifi site, not always available or even desirable to use if you are encroaching on personal sensibilities by doing it.
Good morning Dave B110. The various wifi antennas make it easier to access park wifi secure or unsecure. Yes you can lock onto unsecure signals but it is also useful with park wifi that normally requires you to be at the office etc.
Morning John....I like the simplicity of the system you have, but tell me about the antenna mount on your coaches. Are they the little white antennas mounted at a rearward angle and how do they mount? Also in your case, how much added height to the coach? My apoligies to the OP for jumping onto your post.
