I'm sure this has been asked before and I was able to find on old thread to help but still have some questions. I understand that cars, boats, and motorhomes are considered personal property and therefore will be taxed (this is not the case in FL). Here are my questions? Anyone give me an estimate on what I will pay on a 2008 Damon Challenger (stickered for 128K)? Also, I have a classic car (69 GTX) are they exempt or do you have to pay on that too?

What you save in insurance and property taxes should equal out the income tax and tax on vehicles.

Property tax rates will vary (often greatly) from county to county.

I don't know how they come up with their valuations for new MHs. But we easily got ours reduced to the actual price we paid (much, much less than sticker) by faxing in a copy of our bill of sale to the county tax office.

When I wanted to move from Fort Lauderdale I too wanted to move to the Carolina's. After seing what it cost there, I headed west to Tennessee. I found a great place 2 miles west of I 75 in the country. Its a 16 achre farm with a two story log home and two barns. Bought it 10 years ago for 139,000. Taxes this year were $550.
They also don't have an income tax and don't charge you every year for cars, boats or rv'sjust annual tags which is $24.50 a year.

You might want to check it out.

We bought our MH in WI but lived in NC at the time - we have sinced moved to FL. This thread has some info about the fees we paid and the licensing requirements at the time. I'm assuming some or most of this still applies or perhaps it might help you locate the more current rules.

I believe NC has a $1,500 cap on vehicle tag tax. I would call the tax collector in the county and ask. Google it, call, and get the facts. Probably an initial title and registration transfer hit, then a lesser amount per annum, but brace yourself.

In the county I live in in N.C. (Yancey) I paid $ $80.00 for my personalized truck plate and $140.00 on my $28,000 Truck and $110 on our TT that was valued at $19,000 (I used low NADA). Tried to get them to give me $28,000 for my truck (book was $24000). Gave it all up and plated them in Florida. NO taxes,$34 for tt plate, $60 for 9900lb truck plate and did I say NO TAXES? Not only that, I'm 71, totally disabled (heart attack) and NO HOMESTEAD EXEMPTION because we make over $19,000 per year!!. Trying to sell house and moving back to Florida. Been here for ten years.

In Forsyth County, NC they don't care what you paid for it, just what their book says it is worth. My 2004 Damon is book valued at $69,000 and personal property tax on it last year was $392.00, plate cost was $28.00
You really want to move to NC? Get ready for the worst run state government in history and taxes from -ell. Even tax the damn dog!
My retirement plans call for Tennessee and looking forward to it.
