I tried to post this yesterday, so here goes again.

We had some friends in the 1980s that were from London England. One time they heard my mother refer to someplace as "over yonder". They were surprised to hear someone from the United States using this phrase. According to them, this was a phrase that was popular only in one local area in England.

Another British phrase used in my household:

"Ring me up after while" -which means for you to call me later.

We still refer to our refridgerator as the "ice box". That label is a throw back to my grandparents' generation when you bought blocks of ice to go in the bottom of the "ice box".

I've noticed that the usage of "ya'll" seems to be spreading.

He's so ugly he'd have sneak up on a dipper to get a drink of water.

Anyone outside Texas use that one?

One of those states must be Alaska!

Gamersredneckwife, I haven't heard that one before.

My favorite one that seems to be universal around the country is that EVERYONE seems to think where they are from or where they live is "God's country".
