Travel fool,

I pull the IOD fuse on my 2008 Wrangler when towing. No problems with battery running down. Easy to pull and replace, the Jeep folks obviously put some thought into the fuse design.

What about the brake booster on the toad? Since the engine isn't running there's no vacuum for the booster so all you get for brake pressure is the pass-through from the pedal. And my experience when the engine is dead is that you have greatly increased pedal pressure. Does it work out OK?

Works fine. I bleed the vacuum down before towing. I read that some add a vacuum pump to keep them acuum actuated but I don't see why its necessary. Brakes stop just as well without vacuum, it just requires more pedal force, which you have plenty of as the vehicles weight is what actuates the brake cable.

I do the same as BigKatuna, that being pumping the brakes to get rid of the vacuum. The brakes work flawlessly. The Ready Brake and Ready Brute are the most under rated systems out there. Both work great, are easy to set up, and cost about half of the typical tow-bar/brake systems. Plus no electronics to burn out or screw up. Simple system that works and is made in the USA.

So far, the ReadyBrake is working out just fine.

Just spent a long afternoon installing the ReadyBrake....Night Shift Auto says it should take about 2 hours at a shop...it took us a bit longer (without the proper tools or mechanical ability) but we got it done. NSA recommends that the cable be installed as straight as possible and that bends be limited to 6" radius or more. It really wasn't too bad on our Jeep liberty. We haven't installed the breakaway cable yet...anybody have input on the neccesity or desirability of doing it? BTW, we also installed the wireless light bar from TowMate..it works like a charm!
