All the dealers around here seem to have a lot of 2007's left on their lots.
When I talked to the sales guy, he asked what my budget was. I told him 15-16K. He said no, and didn't take my phone number. Kinda unmotivated?
We have friends who use this dealer, and are happy with them. I can't stand the guys in the sales department, but do like the service guys. They are no BS and capable.
We live so far from the internet dealers that the shipping costs make it about break-even. That's why I'm looking locally. Hopefully then at least we'll not be bumped to the bottom of the service list.
Ryan - where in Idaho do you live. I ask because I have found that Russ Dean in Kennewick WA will deal BIG TIME. I was looking at units last year and on the prior year models they were chopping 31% off just if you asked. They were not high pressure either.
Good luck.

Personally, I'd try for more off. On the other hand I really think that is just a macho thing and won't make a bit of difference 3 months from now. Besides, if the dealer knows you really want it, he isn't going to come down to make you happy. Unless you are truly willing to walk away from it, and the dealer knows it, you aren't going to any 35% off.

I agree with others, you should be able to do better on an aged unit. Quite frankly, the tires have 2+ years already off their service life - STs are designed for 3-5 years of use, not treadwear. It's been outside, so the roof seams may need some touch-up (this is a common RV maintenance). You should be able to get them to detail it to like-new condition as well (black streaks removed, scrub up the textured trim, etc.).
However, if this is a small dealer, they probably won't do it. When we were looking for our 21SS. I found a small dealer out-of-state with an early 2006 leftover on the lot when we were shopping mid-2007 when the 2008s were already being delivered, configured exactly how we wanted, and priced at $1200 below MSRP. I offered what I thought to be a very strong at 25% below MSRP, which would give them a few grand on it. He came back with a total of $1700 below MSRP and the battery and propane would be extra! Needless to say, we bought from another dealer who had what we wanted on order (bought sight unseen) for what we offered on the leftover - that is, we bought a brand new 2008 for the same dollar!!! That leftover was still on the lot in December of 2007.
Thanks everyone. It is a small dealer, but that doesn't excuse much, IMO. I may try the Washington dealer...I have to figure out where that is :-)
dh is really hesitant about the 2007 model, and is also now really not sure he's ready to buy a TT at all. It's a money thing.
He called and spoke with a salesperson at Thor industries today. We wanted to ask why the dry weight of the 2008's was about 400# more than the 2007's (which would, IMO, push our comfort zone). The local dealer didn't know the answer. The Thor rep said they didn't change a thing...just started putting the most-requested options on as standard. I'll have to check what those options are (awning?)are. He's going to talk to their warantee department about their opinion on the 2 years exposed to the weather on the lot.
I purchased a 2006 model last March (2007). The difference in the price made this an easy choice. New price was around $22000. I paid $16800 out the door. I would offer say $16500 out the door but what is $500 (only about 2-3 tanks of gas when pulling the TT). Good luck and let us know how things turn out.
I wouldn't pay anything over 30% off for an '07. Hell, I had negotiated 39% off of an 08 and still backed out due to high interest rates. It's all in what YOU want to pay. We can only let you know what WE would do in each situation. Good luck!

P.S. I wouldn't worry about a unit that sit for a while. That's what trailers are designed to do.
