The sales people I have talked to don't seem to know much about trucks Of course they don't they are sales people and only repeating what they were told about a product. They generally have no clue and are only in it for the money. The days of a real knowledgeable salesman are long gone. It is up to you to educate yourself on the products you intend to purchase....
LOLOL My last trips to the dealer - hotter than the dickens - they had a 20 year old girl as greater in the lot - walking around and greeting people. Next week - she was a sales person. Two weeks prior to working at the dealership, she was selling cell phones.

If I were in the market I would be looking for a 5.9. As mentioned before the book is still out onthe 6.7, and the MPG's are better.

I went from a 5.9 to a 6.7. I really enjoy the quiet power and ease of driving. Hope you find what you want.

I wanted the 5.9 but could not find one I liked so I got the 6.7. So far so good. It pulls great and works well. Either one will be a huge difference over the Hemi.

I traded a 2004.5 3500 dually for my current dually. My last truck had the 5.9 H.O. with the 4 speed auto. I would not give up my new 6.7 for my old 5.9. It was a good truck for towing, but slowing down the rv is a major factor and the exhaust brake and 6 speed auto downshifts automatically when you touch the brake. That means no more white knuckles and the fear of over heating your brakes. As for power, no question the 6.7 will walk away from the 5.9 on a grade. Had them both, so I have experienced each. You can also leave the auto tranny in tow mode and forget about it. It doesn't wind the engine up at 55 mph. It will shift all the way up and give you overdrive as well. Love the 6 speed tranny. also, reverse is geared lower for backing up inclines if you have to back up a grade. No more putting the truck in 4x4 for the lower gearing. The best thing about the Dodge, you have a good choice in either engine. Ynot.

I've had both. My 6.7 is a good bit quieter. I love the combo of the prodigy, exhaust brake and tow/haul. It makes braking pretty much effortless. I have 6500 on the odo and have had no problems. Mileage has averaged around 16 MPG for normal driving which is a bit lower than I prefer. I was getting 22 MPG with the 5.9. When towing, I get about 13 MPG. I got 15 MPG with the 5.9. So much for the EPA trying for cleanaer diesel emmissions. Burning more diesel kind of negates the attempt and effort of this additional diesel particulate filtration.

I have a good friend who owns one of the best auto/truck repair shops in Albuquerque. I asked him about the difference and he said to go with the 5.9 as it has far fewer problems than the 6.7. The newer emissions on the 6.7 are a real problem. My friend could have afforded any thing he wanted and he bought the 5.9 too.

Well I had a friend who new someone who was a cousin to a guy who was related to a diesel mechanic who use to hang out with some dude who likes the 5.9, but decided to get the 6.7 because he now has over 18K on it and it runs like a champ. JK, Like it says, if you get on it and don't baby the engine, it is rock solid. I have almost 19K on my truck. No issues. Just trying to have some fun.

Exactly
To many answering this question have not owned both and are quoting others!!
This engine is the same technology that has been in the over the road trucks for years, the only thing that is really new is the software and hardware that are controlling it. The cpu is faster with 40% more memory.
My 5.9 I thought did real well pulling my 14.5k 5er, then I got the 6.7, and over the same mountains it doesn’t compare in pulling power or downhill stopping power. with the E/B and 6 speed auto. The fuel mileage is also improving mine was stuck at 15 to 15.5 empty for a long time after the G30 flash it starting improving and now is at 19+ mpg.
