I sure hope someone out there can help us. We have been deluged by ants when the motorhome is stored. Found one place they came in and sprayed and they are gone from there, but there are many many other areas that they can use to get in.
Hate the sprays as they just about eliminate us too! Does anybody have an idea on how to keep ants from climbing up your mud flaps, tires, jacks, etc., and getting into the motorhome?
We never leave food in it - so I have no idea what the attraction is.

Terro Liquid, or Amdro granules... either and/or both will do the trick. Available at Home Depot.

You're gonna get all kinds of responses from the folks here mentioning all kinds of different ant repellents and advise on how to seal up your RV. I found something that works pretty good, inside the house and in the TT.

A few months ago we got hit by ants. I use dried molasses (the stuff they use in horse feed as a supplement / sweetener). It's been working wonderful, just put a plastic bottle cap full anywhere the ants congregate. They eat the dried molasses, take it back to their hive, and it kills the rest. Molasses will not hurt birds or other pets. From what I understand, they eat the stuff and because they have a hard outer skeleton, they explode with it expands, eventually killing out the hive.

Well, this has worked for us for several years now! Really! But for some reason we got hit with a new strain of ants that seemed to be resilient to everything! Then I tried an old method that worked in the past for other pesty bugs ... citronella candles. We put them out in the TT and in the house and within a day, ALL the ants were gone and haven't returned.

Don't light the candles, just set them out. The more you have the better. In our TT we put out only a couple. In the house we had 2 or 3 in every room.

You can try it. See if it works! Once the citronella smell permeates everything, ALL bugs will stay out. Don't light them, just set them out opened, and even break chunks off the candles and lay them around for more exposure.

Good luck!

we use some stuff around the yard that looks like fine saw dust but it kills ants, fleas ,ticks and other insects, its hard to see after you sprinkle it around good for a whole season but have found in the past 3 or 4 months and more needs to be put down.got it at lowes, home depot probably has it too.

Dutchman Sport has the answer. We actually buy horse feed which has molasses in it and sprinkle it around. It not only works well but is almost amazing with the speed it rids your area of ants.

Another trick is to put out dried cream of wheat, the ants eat it, go back to the nest and get a drink and boom, they explode! Really works good on fire ants!

Another good product is boric acid. Safe and effective for all types of ants, roaches, and other bugs (this includes fire ants).

That's what I have used for years, Grandma. You can get it at the drug store. use it like the molasses described above. I sometimes mix in some sugar to make sure to attract the ants.

cool info...now added to my arsenal of bug stuff.

Dried Molasses, Cream of Wheat and already had Boric Acid & Diatomaceous Earth (both natural and they can't become immune to it).

I'll now mix'm all up to make sure to get'm all...

I also have citronella oil for my patio/camping/etc lanterns that are
placed around the table/patio/camp site/etc. Neat to find out that it
also works on other kinds of bugs!!!!

Great thread!!!!
