My Newmar went out of warranty in April, 2007. Before the warranty expired, I had the dealer fix a couple of problems that included replacing the step cover motor. The repairs were made for all but the step cover but the dealer had ordered the part. Shortly afterward, my wife uderwent emergency heart valve replacement surgery and my priorities changed, as did my need to use the motorhome. A month or so afterward I called and spoke to the service writer and explained why I had not been in to have the repair done. She told me not to worry and the part was in the shop, waiting to be replaced.
In December, 2007, I finally got around to having the motor replaced. The repairs were done and the coach was released to me. Now, almost 8 months later, I get a call from the dealer (RV Peddler, Bakersfield) who told me that their records indicated I hadn't PAID for the repair! I told them it was a warranty repair and that they could verify that by the date the part was ordered as compared to my warranty date. The caller then tried to tell me that it was "...the customer's responsibility to ensure that all work was performed during the warranty period..." I had had enough by that time and told him, essentially, to bite the bullet and that they had no authorization or estimate signed by me to do the repair nor would have I signed any such estimate. He said he was going to call Newmar for more info. That call took place about 3 weeks ago and I haven't heard any more from them and hopefully I won't. But, I can only wonder if business is that bad for RV dealers if they aren't resorting to underhanded tactics to get business by any means possible. Has anybody had a similar experience with RV Peddler?

I agree. Let's put things in the proper perspective. This is nothing but a minor annoyance when compared to health issues which, I sincerely hope, have been resolved.

If the Dealer wants to keep your future business

They should just apologize and move on...

It is called Good Will on the part of the dealer..he reported the problem and had it fixed when it was possible. There is a record of the problem before the close of the warranty as there is a part order. The dealer made a mistake and probably wrote a fresh RO instead of referring back to the original RO. But, in keeping with this thread..my dealer who had two shifts at 6 days a week--now is only open 5 days a week (closes one day mid week and works a 12-8 one mid week day)now only has a 40 hr week total....so obviously he has made some cuts to survive and this dealer has been around since the early 60's....

Now that oil is somewhat not in free rise anymore--and the fact that they have seen some unlawful behavior by speculators...that should help it come down although I have not seen the relief at the pump just yet (goes up like a rocket--down like a feather) and once the olympics are over(the china diesel demand) I bet it will come down--(but one more Katrina or other unanticipated event means that all bets will be off.) We have had enough closures..etc and it is time for us not to be the laughing stock of the world anymore. I just hope that even if fuel comes down....that the damage done can be un-done....(inflation, food prices, housing all have taken their toll)--and that those on the verge of upgrading or buying an RV indeed will.

It is not that unusual to report a warranty issue while the warranty is in effect, have a delay for some reason, and then have the issue corrected after the warranty has expired and still have it covered by the warranty.

If you think he should pay then don't you complain about having to pay the bill when you take your rig in for an expensive repair and due to delays in getting parts or diagnosing all the problems and it doesn't get fixed until after the warranty has expired. I'll admit it was his choice to delay but it is essentially the same as my example.
