So my door bell rings last evening and it is my neighbors with a small package of Home made Mexican,, and I am talking REAL Mexican,, from Central Mexico, not the Tex/mex stuff.
So I am sitting watching the news when my neighbors stopped by. they are from Deep Central Mexico and she cooks typical Mexico home stuff.. She brought me two flat puffy taco things,, simple, with homemade refried beans onions and lettuce with touch of the white melting cheese and in a bag, fresh green sauce,, made with avocados and fresh Serrano and garlic and black peppers.. I am serious, my mouth started watering just looking at it.. After they left I nuked it just a few seconds and dang,, my tongue almost beat my face to death trying to get to it.. LOL LOL I told her more than once to divorce him and marry me...

Gosh, I love neighbors like that!
In my old neighborhood I had a Vietnamese neighbor. She used to bring me her awesome egg rolls. I used to bake chocolate chip cookies and bring over batches for their family. She told me that she had never been able to get the hang of baking. We got to frequent trades of traditional Vietnamese dishes from their house for home baked desserts from our house.

I have Mexicans living behind me and a family across the street. I get invited to all the beer drinking and food parties. Man they know how to eat and drink. Good people. they just had a baby shower for the daughter, she is having her 4th child. a little girl this time. Can't wait to get in line to hold the baby..

I had Mexican residents, in one of my apartments, that brought me a plate of their dinner. After they moved out, I wished I had not eaten the food - but, it was delicious!

I tell you what,, living across the street from them I learned what real honest To Goodness interior Mexican food is.. Not near as spicy as our TEX MEX,, but the flavors!! YUM<,, I had real cactus blooms in a sauce,, over her rice ( I GOT to get that rice recipe) man,, it was sooo good, different but good.
I was explaining to them how I cook Goat, cabrittio, and same thing there, but they use a ground red Chile stuff that I have never seen. We have to do that one day this summer.. Since Wife died I think they are uneasy about coming over, but I keep encouraging them.
it is so much fun and entertaining to hear them tell of their life back home, and I blew them away when I showed them their town in Mexico on Google Earth. :-) WE even found her families jewelry shop in one small town. and the church and schoolyard were Rosa played as a kid. Just dang good neighbors.. Rare in this day and age, the other people here I don't know and I been here 25 years.

We couldn't ask for better neighbors! Our Mexican neighbors always invite us to their parties & before our kids were teenagers (they have a daughter the same age as my son) my DS was over there ALL the time. He said PB&J on those flat puffy tacos is better than anything! We had one of our son's friends watch our dog one weekend-we leave the garage door cracked for her. He forgot the garage door opener & crawled under the door. Our neighbors came running over to make sure everything was ok. And Bennetexas, I'm like you. We don't know some of our neighbors & we've been here 12 years!

I grew up in San Diego where we had Mexican neighbors and friends who were excellent cooks. Homemade Mexican is amazing and makes you really picky about Mexican restaurant food. Forget about El Torito or Taco Bell!!!! Fortunately we have small taco stands, sprinkled through out San Diego, that offer authentic delicious food.
