How much leakage should I expect from my grey & black dump valves?

I get about a 1/2-quart it seems when I open the cap on my sewer line. I try to catch it with my hose, but sometimes I get my arms splashed a bit trying to hold the hose underneath the cap...disgusting to say the least.

Is bone dry expecting too much?

Our HTTTH has been used for over 40,000 miles to date and we get NO leakage. Never even a drop.

Correct. Should be no leakage. Before buying new valves, take the old ones out and clean the slots that the gate slides into. (You'll see what I'm talking about.) Sometimes tp will get jammed and not allow the valve to close completely. This was my problem.
If you do need new valves, they are relatively inexpensive and very easy to install! (Heck, even I could do it!)
Good luck!

If you don't want to clean or rework the valves you can put a container under the outlet to catch the leakage. This gets rid of the mess of trying to attach the hose to a pipe fill of leakage. It does require carrying the container and cleaning it. If you are lucky and have a straight shot at the valve from the end of the pipe it may be possible to clean the valve with a dowel with a finish nail through it and carefully clean the gasket.

AnderROO I have found tapping the our manual handles with a rubber hammer helps. We are currently cooking both tanks with septic tank macrobes to help insure there is no build up of any kind in the neck of the valves.

Are you sure it is a leaking valve? I had a trailer once that always had water in it when I took the cap off but the valves did not leak. The pipe from one of the tanks ran uphill toward the outlet. If the trailer was level it would never drain out. Had to have the rear end high for it to drain.

This twist on valve works well. Our valve leaked and got one to hold us over till we could bring our MH in for warranty work. Ours turned out that the cable was not pushing the valve completely closed, they adjusted the cable and we were good to go.

I still keep the twist on valve on just in case.

I just dumped both tanks that we had filled with fresh water and put in septic tank bacterial mix 10 days ago. There was no water released when I removed the 3" cap to connect the drain hose so the rubber hammer tapping works for us.

As a note nothing came out of either tank except clear water so based on that and the visual it seems we are good to go. All of our sensors lights are still working after 15 years as well. Maybe the tanks do not require a lot of attention as long as there is plenty of water usage.

Our black tank slider valve weeped. A replacement was inexpensive and took maybe 15 minutes to change with the trailer tilted severely away from the valves.

Well, I got the 3" valve replaced this weekend. It took all of 15 mins. to unbolt the old and bolt on the new one. The old gaskets looked like they had been shredded all around the edges. It took a bit longer to drive to Cabelas and flush both tanks really good and then take the family to Culvers for a treat; but at least the DW got some practice driving the trailer around Cabelas' big parking lot. Now if I could just get her to learn to back it up.
