I'm looking at replacing the existing Dexter pin box on my 2008 Jayco Eagle 5er with the Trailair Air Pin or the 5th Airborne. However, the Dexter pin box isn't listed in the "replacement" pin box for either product. It has the typical list of Lipperts, etc. Do you know if the Dexter pin box is identical in hole placement and measurements to any other more popular pin boxes?

Thanks in advance.

Dexter? Could it be "Leland Engineering"? The chassis is made by Leland Engineering. I don't know if the two are related or not. I'd check with Jayco about warranty with any extended pin box that isn't factory just to be safe.

Yup, you probably have a LeLand 7920 (Just a dexter sticker on it), replaced mine with a 5AB

Wanna buy it from me?

I would like to sell it but if you have a SB, get the 5th AB with Sidewinder...do it right the first time.

Cheers

Great decision-highly recommended. As previously said, your frame is made by leland engineering. Dexter provides the axles and running gear. You will need to get either an L08 or M17 from trailair. The only difference between the two is that the L08 is 5 inches longer and is classified as an "extended" pinbox. I see you have an 07 hd. If it is the new body style, MAKE ABSOLUTELY SURE YOU GET THE M17!!! The new body style trucks have a deeper bed and wider bed rails and the extended version will have contact with the rails. It will clear on level ground, but any off angle maneuvering, and your day will be as bad as mine was. If you have the old body style, it doesnt matter. The extended is nice for additional cab clearance and maneuvering, just not on a new body style truck. IMHO, the trailair is the way to go. It has the most movement to provide for maximum travel and suspension. Infact I have an extended Im trying to swap for a shorty. As far as the frame warranty goes, my dealer installed it and verified with Jayco that there would be no issues in the unlikely event something happened. Surprisingly, they were happy about it as the suspension it provides eases some of the stress on frame. Good luck-hope this helped.

My pin box may be a Leland, but here is a link to my pinbox and it is labeled as a Dexter: http://l.b5z.net/i/u/6069975/f/Service%20Bulletins/Service_Bulletin_7926_rev_1.pdf
Has anyone seen this pin box on their trailer or anyone else's?

It is considered a long pin box. I moved it down to the lowest setting to get maximum clearance at my rails (currently about 8 inches). I also raised my trailer 1 inch to get a level ride.

I'd like to stay with a long pin box as long as I can still get 7-8 inches of clearance at my rails. Is this not possible with the L08?

I would think your manufacturer would encourage all of their customers to attach some type of pin box suspension to alleviate some of the strain on the trailer frame. I'd be surprised if that voided the factory warranty.

That's interesting. Dexter and Leland Engineering must be related or have merged or somehow become one. That is definitely a picture of what used to be or is still made by Leland Engineering. Two good companies working together have become one?

Same pin box that I have....5thAB will NOT void your Jayco Warranty or your Dexter Warranty. I spoke with Sonny at length about this. 5th AB and Jayco do have an agreement together and you can order a Jayco with a 5thAB already installed from the factory.

If you want to talk to him and get all the details...PM me and I will get give you his phone number.

Mine is listed on Craigslist right now!!

BTW, Leland makes the Pin Boxes for Dexter.

Dexter Axle bought Leland Engineering in 2005. When we bought our 07 Jayco the 08's on the lot had Dexter labels on the frame components and pinbox. Seems the name changed with the 08 models.
