We are planning on purchasing a used DP. We are planning to buy from a dealership and are planning to pay cash. I have a couple different ways I have thought about negotiating.
A.
Tell the salesperson that I want his/her best deal and that I will be paying cash. I doubt the "best deal" will be the first numbers the sales person presents me.
B.
Tell the salesperson that I want to negotiate price before we discuss payment options. (Even though, I know I will be paying cash)
Should I be up front with them or play their silly games? I personally wish they would be up front with me, but I don't think it's the nature of the business.

Cash is not a bargining chip. They make more on credit. Look up prices first on NADA and you will be more informed. Also ask around.

And cash gives the dealer more options to potentially abuse the situation. If the purchase is being financed then there will most likely be an experienced 3rd party overseeing title registration etc. IMHO

Bring a bottle of Johnny Walker Blue. Hopefully your salesperson isn't attending AA.

So called "cash" doesnt mean a thing. The dealer will get HIS money in "one lump sum" regardless of how you chose to pay for it ( cash or finance....the dealer doesnt recieve money monthly on the purchase!!)
Negotiate price and say nothing about "payment" options...If askd straight out just say you dont know at that point

It has been my experience, whether buying a MH,or auto to do your homework. Check NADA low retail, used MH sites, etc. to arrive at a price. Go to the dealer and, first really check out the used unit to make sure needed repairs/tires etc. aren't needed. If all looks good to you, make him/her an offer based on your research. If he balks (probably) leave him your phone number and walk away.
I have walked away from several dealers to only have a call waiting as soon as I got home.
Good luck.

Doesn't matter how you pay always work the deal as you are paying cash, you are going to have to do the stupid back and forth thing unless you walk in with a number you are set on and say "this is what I will buy the coach for if you want to sell it to me today",keep emotions out of it and be prepared to walk.

This is a buyers market. Prices of used motorhomes are still going down. After you decide on a fair price make your offer. Tell the dealer you are ready to buy but only at your price. If you don't get this one many more will be available this fall (probably cheaper).

If you are not wanting to play games at the dealership then try this, it is what I do when buying from a dealer.
When you find the unit you like and are ready to buy find a salesperson (shouldnt be too hard )
Tell them you are a serious buyer and you would like to know their best price. The salesperson will want to take you to their office. they will shoot you a price in which will be HIGH. Make an offer based on your knowledge of what the book value is/desire to own that unit/willing to spend. The salesperson most likely will run that offer to a mangers office where they will have a meeting on how large of a fish they have nibbling and how much they THINK they can get you to pay. When salesperson returns and tells you their best deal decide if that is acceptable based on the previous criteria. I shoot them another counter offer based on what the value is/willing to spend and tell the salesperson to run that back to the manager. He/She will. They will return and accept or decline your counter offer. IF a counter offer happens at this point I reiterate to the salesperson that I am a serious buyer today and am willing to stand at my previous offer but IF they are going to keep playing then I am going to take off 100 dollars each and every trip to the managers office that takes place as my time is worth something (time is money). The salesperson will relay this info to the sales manager if he/she is worth their weight in Spam. At this point you will probably be meeting with the sales manager to find out that they are willing to accept your first counter offer or they will decline and explain that they cannot let it go at that low of a price.
My experience has proven that this method (especially when buying without trade in) will get you the unit you want at the price you offered without any further games. Stand firm with a reasonable offer.
good luck
