I have a 2005 F350 SRW CC 4x4 Auto Shortbed v-10 4:10's, with camper pkg etc....I would like to tow a Jayco Eagle 5th wheel model 313RK. Brochue says dry weight is 10,120 and pin is 2440. My truck has a 3500 lb payload rating and a max trailer weight of 13,900. Any thoughts from all you experienced 5er men and women? I would be getting a slider hitch as well. Thanks for your input, and if anyone can provide real weights for this model that would be fantastic. Thank you!

Actually it looks like the tow rating for your truck is 12,500 lbs, and a 2900 lb payload. (F-250/F-350 Super Duty Crew Cab 4WD 6.8L V10 12,500 (a or m,u)) and to stay comfortable with your engine I'd stay between trailer gross weight of 11,000 and 12,000 max. Especially with no dually's and a short bed, the pin weight will actually be closer to your max limit!

If you've got your numbers right, I'd say it would work but be on the edge of too much weight. You'll likely use up 700 pounds of that payload with passenger(s), hitch and misc. stuff, and you'll probably end up with another 4-500 pounds of pin weight once the camper is ready to go. That would put you just a tad bit over weight. Keep the extra stuff to a minimum and drive conservatively and you should be okay. *JMHO*

12,500 is the convential trailer max weight, not fifth wheel. 13,900 is correct. I have the ford trailer guide from 2005 on pdf file.

Interstingly if I go to 4.3 gears then max towing goes too 15,400.

your 3500 SRW has a RAWR on the drivers side door for how much Fords says you can load the trucks axles/tires to for its max load. Most 3500 SRW trucks have a (est) 6400 RAWR. Your trucks rear when empty weight will be around 2800-2900 lbs (est) which leaves 3500-3600 for a payload. Figure 250 lbs for a hitch/300 for driver and co driver/100 lbs for junk in the truck leaves approx 2950 for a pin weight. The 5ers dry pin weight will most likely grow close to that 2950 lb figure when the unit is road ready. These numbers are a "estimate". (actuals will have to come from actually weighing your truck and the 5er) and will be max axle/tire loads which I wouldn't recommend hauling over. The 5er your looking at will put your truck at those max axle/tire cap loads. Your decission.
When choosing a heavy trailer it works better if you look at the units GVWR number and then use a 20 percent figure of that weight for a realistic pin weight.

What is the GCWR of your truck?

RAWR is 7000lbs and GCWR is 21,000. Each tire is 3670 max. Funny thing is this trailer has the heaviest pin weight out of all the 2008 Jayco Eagles and I thought the rear kitchens would have a lighter pin weight.

I told the wife I should get a dually for future upgrades, but she didn't like the "hips". HAHA, I am not planning on getting the new 5er for awhile yet since the camping season is nearly over. I was hoping my current truck could do the job safely with most of the camping within 150 miles of home. I would prefer not to upgrade the TV for a few more years.
