Was watching the evening news where they mention 162 kidnappings and only 2 convictions..This was over a 6 month time span and was in Mexico City area. we often go down into Mexico as far as Mex-City and then over to the Pacific coast.. Am aware of the critical gang land shootings along the El Paso and Nogalas borders.. Was just wondering how some of you feel about this issue..? TJ has been getting a bit scary too.. Do you think that this will somehow carry over into the RV resorts..??

It's only a matter of time I'm afraid. There are alot of folks that have been going there for years that will continue to do so without fear, but I personally prefer to play it safe. We have a membership RV resort in Baja that we have been dying to try (no pun intended), but with news like this, I think we'll hold off and see if things improve. Right now the authorities here are advising against any travel to TJ or Baja.

Not going to Mexico because of violence in Mexico city or border towns is like not seeing the U.S. because of trouble in Harlem or Watts.

As Rob said, we avoid trouble spots IN EVERY COUNTRY WE TRAVEL IN (including the good ole U.S.A.).

One reason not to go is that you are not allowed any defensive weapons there.

We went last January and had a great time and never once felt any uneasiness. We are planning a return trip soon. We did southern Sonora, Guaymas/San Carlos via motorhome.

When all you hear about a place is the bad news then everything gets distorted.

I grew up in Belfast, Northern Ireland and when I came to Canada people would say things like "that must have been awful growing up in that environment". Well I wasn't, I knew the trouble spots and places to avoid and life carried on as normal. Probably just like in Mexico.

There are many places in the US that we all should avoid too, so it is not confined to Mexico or other foreign lands.
