Read the following on another outdoor forum I read, from a fellow Oregonian.

Just giving ya'll a heads up.

Quote:

Some friends and I spent the weekend in Waldport, OR camping and fishing. The local towing company has a little scamola going where they tow unsuspecting out-of-towners from anywhere they might park. We parked four cars in on a dead end road, no signs of any kind, and went across the highway to the beach for about six hours. When we came back, the cars were gone, no idea where they were. Called the sheriff's department, told us they were probably towed, "happens all the time", but they couldn't tell us who towed them. Took half the next day to track down the towing company, who charged us $250 per car, cash, no receipt.
I recommend you drive straight though Waldport without stopping. Anywhere you park is a "no parking" zone. I'll never go back there again.

Before we get rolling on the bandwagon to beat up Waldport, do you have a link to the forum?

If the story is true, they're about to find out about the power of the internet!

I send a note to the Waldport city manager. She wrote back saying she had not heard of this and that she would look into the problem.

Well, shoot. That's no fun.

We've had bad luck in OR ourselves.

Once we got a ticket in Oregon City because our car was new and in CA we aren't issued plates, we get a sticker on our front window. Plates come in the mail a few weeks later.

So we got a ticket for not having a license plate

We also got pulled over once on the coast because someone reported us as drunk drivers. "Uh, no sir. We haven't had a drink in, well, 4 days. Uh no sir, we weren't weaving, we're driving the speed limit. Excuse me sir? Uh no, that's my wife!"

Sheesh.

My mom lives in Ashland, OR. I drive around the state, lots of extra miles.
Their ways are not ways I embrace, so I attempt to spend as little there as possible.

I'll add this to my own reasons for disliking their government and laws.

Ashland/Medford/Eugene/Portland/Salem, transplant cities of San Francisco, Los Angeles, and San Diego.

The coast is the coast. I haven't found one where the yuppies and jacktards aren't in control for the most part.

Washington and California are equally buggered, if not worse in some cases.

Ok, here's an email from the Waldport Visitors Centre it seems to me they have no idea what's going on. I have send David Moffitt a link to this forum and this discussion.

From David Moffitt:

My name is David Moffitt and I am a volunteer at the Waldport Visitors Center. I want to get to the bottom of this towing issue, but the information I have is lacking dates, who the tow company was, and where the towing occurred. I have lived in Waldport off and on for 63 years. I have never heard of a towing company in this small town being as unprofessional as this email indicates. We want to fix this problem but I don't have enough information to proceed. I am very sorry this happened and I want to help put a stop to any future events of this nature.

Sounds like maybe the owner of the private property is in cahoots with a tow truck company...
