I love using a GPS. We have had a portable one for the last couple years. One of the things we love about it is when we are going down the interstate and want to fuel, or eat at a certain resturant, DW can search the GPS , find what we want. Hit the go there button and go there. I just ordered a 2008 Jeep Wrangler Toad, and ordered the GPS built in. On a recent trip the DW tried to find a Waffel House, to our surprise the GPS told use we could not search while in motion. I understand why it has to be this way, because can you imagine how many wrecks you would see if a dude was driving a rig and was trying to find a waffel House. We plan on ordering a new coach this year, and I think now I will cross the GPS from my opion list and just use my protable........Vacman

I've got navigation in three cars, all pretty high-end, but my buddy's Garmin Nuvi is faster, easier, and cooler looking than any of them.

On my GPS, portable, you can go in and set it so you can't change it while in motion, BUT you should also be able unlock it.
Check into your menu, and you should see it there.

I have GPS in my Dodge truck. The last I checked there was an upgrade available--$370+ dollars! I'm going to take a good look at the Garmin before I invest that much in the one that came in the truck. One reason is that I think Garmin will probably be more accurate and up-to-date--though that is supposition on my part.

I'm going to watch this thread. Hope to hear the plusses and negatives about different navigations systems.

One thing I noticed is that companies like Garmin are constantly updating there information while my 2003 factory big bucks unit (Alpine) has not offered a new dvd map set other than the ones that came with my unit.

We live in Fl. We have been in New mexico for 1 week using Garmin nuvi 205. Sometimes it becomes confused, like me. But it gets us to where we want to go. Best Buy $179.

I use my Treo 755P Phone-PDA and a subscription to TeleNav. I have a suction cup mount and a $40 BT GPS. I move the setup from vehicle to vehicle as needed. 3D & voice directions. Always up to date in real-time, including traffic. Destinations are stored online and can be added via their web interface or on the handset. (Unlimited data plan required.) If you already have a PDA phone with GPS, there is no equipment to buy.

I believe the OP was stating that, even when spelled correctly, a search cannot be done while in motion. I could be wrong.

That is correct. As I stated in my post I can not search while in motion with my factory installed GPS. So to have the wife search while on the move we will have to use the portable.
