Another vote for the stainless steel washer tub, we use one and love it. You can also throw a grate on the top and cook on it. You can get them at salvage yards or appliance repair shops.

Target had a lightweight firepit with cover that folds down and zips into a carry case. Around $50 about 26" round x 6" in the case.

We love our Coleman Roadtrip Fireplace Grill. It disassembles and fits into a case about the size of the top cove, with everything else nestling inside. Works as a wood or charcoal grate, too. The legs are two-section for low or higher height.
It depends on the ranger, but we have been allowed to use it where no other fires were allowed on account of its spark shielding. I cut a hole in the top to fit a 3-inch galvanized stove pipe chimney so we don't get smoke in our face, and with an offset, the chimney works under the awning in the winter with side shields on the awning to block the wind.

However, as much as we love ours, we gotta admire the Pit 2 Go as being more compact for storage. We just prefer to see the whole fire instead of a few orange holes in a metal box or tub.

We love our New Frontier Portable Propane Campfire. We have had it for about fifteen years now and it still looks and works great.

We have the flame dancer on the backporch and use it in our Florida winters and can see where it would be great for an RV. It's small, easy to transport and very clean with the screw down lid.

I agree, however the Pit-2-go I like because it is compact (LIGHT I would not call it but compact it is) and it performs as advertised. We were able to use wood fires for cooking which we find hard with most rings.
WIth the optional spark arrester grid you get a "Safe" campfire per the ads.. I'm not convinced as the spark arrester does not fully cover it.. But IIRC it did stop all sparks
IT's also good for grilling fish

I keep the Pit2Go in the trailer. I use it when appropriate. Where I camp, fire wood is free for the picking. I see no reason to buy propane for a pretend campfire.

If you have the room, an old Weber charcoal grill with the legs shortened makes a great fire pit. We have one at home, but do not take it RVing. It works great and the cover keeps the water out. I would think the smaller Smokey Joe Weber one would make a nice fire pit, also.
