I ordered the "trailer alignment kit" from Harbor Frieght I asked about a few months ago.

Simply put, in calm conditions, the device works very well and for $10 is a no-brainer.

The bad news: in windy conditions, the device is virutally useless.

That's about all there is to it. Either way, for the price it's a welcome addition to my gear.

I haven't tried that and really thought about it for hitching up my boat. Then I saw the VR3 for $100, I jumped on that and now I get out of my truck about 3 times.

I have ten inch mirror that hangs off the tailgate and it allows you to look in your rear view mirror and see the ball and the hitch . I put a lime green teenis ball over the ball on the truck and a cut up one on top of the hitch ,when two geen balls turn into one you are there . I love my setup , got it at Camping world on a table marked ,previously opend items , thirteen bucks

I found that the one Harbor Freight sells is a little to flexible and maybe that's what led to your problems in the wind. I built my own using fiberglass rods (the type meant for driveway markers) from Lowes and they work much better IMO.

I found the green balls are OK if you are level and backing straight on to the TT. To connect in my driveway, I am coming at an angle and not very level so the balls are off "kilter" to much to line up. My friend has a backup camera at his rear license plate and that works perfect, he hits the target every time without getting out. I may have to look into adding a camera.

I picked up a set of the "tennis balls on car antenna" doodads Northern Tool sells, they were on sale for $12.99. The magnet is strong enough to hold them in place, provided you have a FLAT area for the magnet to sit, any bump under the magnet will make it unstable.

I fully extend the one on the TV, and after three uses, have marked the height on the unit placed on the TT so the two balls touch when aligned correct.

I can see the ball plainly from my minivan, I can see the ball on the trailer tongue for my line-up, and my wife still thinks she is providing direction to get me attached.

Once I get the balls to touch, I am within an inch or two of line-up to drop the tongue onto the ball.

My review, a good thing, everyone should have one.

on a side note, with my very low to the ground utility trailer, these are an even better aid to hitch.

I spent less than $100 and all I wanted was to see the ball and hitch, this works great for me.
