I am of the opinion your spouse should be the one helping you back the vehicle to hook up to the trailer. It is a marriage-building experience!!

When my DW guides me, her hands are 4 feet apart to show how far back I have to go. They inch together until they are 3 feet apart then they suddenly clap together as the ball receiver of the TT hits my truck bumper about 3 inches to the side of the ball. I now am training my son to take over the job.

I have the magnetic rods.
Sometimes I even remember to get them out from behind the seat and use them.
More often I just guess and check. It only takes about three guesses, and I have it close enough.
I need the exercise, anyway.

How many Sailers (Squids) does it take to do this?

SemperFiCop-- Do you mean "sailors", as in USN? This ex snipe does it by himself, sometimes with the Harbor Freight rods, sometimes without.........DW not much help.
