We stay at Sunflower RV Resort in Surprise, just Northwest of Phoenix. We started out visiting as Passport members for a week, decided to stay for a couple of months and rented a lot, but before we moved to it, we decided to rent an annual lot. That was 3 years ago and we have renewed every year. We also bought a park model in the park and rent it out - we are still staying ourselves on our RV lot. Park is first class with every recreation and club you could want. Plent of shopping and lots to do. the park is quiet and friendly, but there is quite a bit of traffic outside the park in the winter season. Most good parks around Phoenix fill up for monthly or longer rentals in January thru March, but you can still get short term sites in many.

We will be at the Sun Flower the last three days of Nov on our way to sister park Canyon Vistas. We will be in one of the cheap seats out back. I agree on the traffic in the Surprise area, lots of it. We are looking at possible new home locations and Sun City West has lots of nice things that would put it high on our list, but the traffic on the roads in that part of Phoenix is a little much!!!!

Also seems that the local drivers in Az are all in a hurry to get somewhere. Mix that up with a bunch of grey hairs and it makes your head spin.

Correct. Most folks here are in a hurry...

However, the grey hairs come down here and then drive 30-35 mph when the speed limit is 45 mph. People should adapt where they go...or have someone else drive for them.

October/November seems to be the high stress months here. The locals get frustrated with the snowbirds but usually by spring it's business as usual.

You guys need to check out Florida. Its only old people and their parents there. And they drive - well, I don't want to spoil the surprise!

A couple of years ago we accidentally stumbled upon a quiet little RV Park about a mile east of Why Arizona called, Hickiwan Trails.
http://hickiwantrailsrvpark.com/ It's about a 25 minute drive south of Ajo, Arizona. We returned there last year for a couple of short stays between boondocking sites in the area. This is a quiet area of Arizona & only a 20 minute drive north of the beautiful Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument. We will probably spend some time there again this winter. If your into big shopping malls, fancy restaurants, & like to be pampered & catered to, this area is probably not for you. However, if your an outdoors person with an appreciation for the true beauty of the land, nighttime starry skies from horizon to horizon, mountain vistas, hiking mountain trails, & don't mind a little sand in your teeth, you just might like this area as much as we do.............

We stay in Mesa, as we feel safe, the shopping is super,it is easy to get around, and there is much to do. Best yet, there is not the wind and dust as Yuma.

We stay in Parker Az. It's not far to Quartzsite and is close to Lake Havasu City. It's usually 1 or 2 degrees cooler than Yuma. Lots of ATV riding.

Last year was our first experience going to the southwest for the winter. We stayed a spell in Del Rio Texas right on the Mexican border. We had a very pleasant stay and the fishing is great at Lake Amistad. The weather was VERY warm, in the 90s, during early February. This area is quiet and mostly just the good fishin and GREAT restaurants and shopping over the border in Ciudad Acuna. I give Ma Crosby's joint five forks. Yum... A bit too isolated for us in general though. It was a GOOD place to spend a couple weeks in and I would go back again someday.

We then spent a few weeks in Tucson at Justin's right behind the Sajuaro national park. We LOVED the sonoran desert and the weather was very nice. Clear skies and great trails. Plenty of good shopping and eateries in the Tucson area. The traffic in the city sucks even worse than Phoenix I think. It is DRY there. No place to fish or do much hunting if it's not for rattlers... We DID enjoy our stay there though.

We then spent a couple weeks just north at Apache Junction. We like the Superstition foothils area very much, and were looking at some realestate there. I like the trail area and the river canyons and lakes. It's close to drive up towards Payson or Strawberry to get a dose of woods and cool mountain air. Shopping and eateries abound in the Scottsdale and Phoenix area. Plenty also in the southeast burbs like Mesa. We like this area a lot.

We just booked for Jan to April of this coming winter in Apache Junction. We'll try Shiprock this time and see how it goes. Will be looking for some foothills property again. I'd sure like to put up a "porte" type casita so I could park the coach at the house and maybe have a large shop/ garage on a few acres there. We could then spend the summers probably further to the northwest in Idaho or Wyoming maybe. It's getting time to sell the old homestead and head out, but we want to have a base to go "home" to and store "stuff".
We like the weather in Yuma in the winter, but we tend to like the slightly more " cosmopolitan " environment of the Superstition foothills close to but NOT IN Phoenix a bit more. It ain't exactly freezin cold there either. Actually last year it was much warmer in the southwest RGV at least when we were there.

We spent our first winter south last year between Texas and AZ. We were at Canyon Lake RV park in Mission for a month and then went to Val Vista park in Mesa. This year we are spending three months in Gold Canyon. We picked this park mainly for the golf course attatched to it. Texas was nice but windy and humid. AZ was cooler but dryer. Hope to the other posters when we get there on New years eve. Will probably need a few cervesas after four days of driving.

You might like to say what you enjoy doing while you're in Az. We stayed in Benson for 3 months and enjoyed sightseeing. Now they have a wal-mart for better shopping. In Wickensburg we enjoyed the BLM We stayed away from Casa Grande because of traffic and polution. Stay away from Suni-Sands in Yuma unless you like NOISE( it's across the street from airport and USMC airstation) I'm going back to Yuma near the foothills. good restruants reasonable traffic.
