As if DH didn't have enough trouble, now he has shingles. I recognized it right away and sent him off to the doctor, so he's on an anti-viral drug, but he sure feels bad. All puny and draggy. Not to mention sore. He says the skin on his chest and back is just very tender. The rash looks pretty bad now and he's still breaking out--yuck. Good thing we don't have any camping trips in the near future. Ya'll think good thoughts for him, okay?

Oh gosh. Everyone I've known who had this was miserable miserable miserable.

Yes, sure hope those meds work quickly. Know it is a tough thing to endure.

So sorry.

6 months ago I broke out with shingles. The doctor gave me antibiotics. The shingles got worse. A friend of mine told me about a cure that his Grandmother used. She was from Germany. Coat the infected area with clear finger nail polish. It gives instant relief and the sores start to disappear. I used the finger nail polish and my shingles cleared up in 4 to 5 days. I had them on my neck, back, chest, and waist. Once you coat the infected area the pain all but goes away. Touch, air, or just moving hurt.

There is a shingles shot available for us older adults whose immunity might be worn off from having the chicken pox as children. I got one last year before I traveled out of the country.

I would recommend the shot. The shot is only preventive. Once you get the shingles you can not get the shot.

I think they recommend the vaccine for healthy people over 60. DH is only 51 and he has severe lung disease. They don't usually give the shot to people with compromised immunity because it is a live virus--the shot can *cause* shingles in that population.

He says it feels like boils under the skin--owwwww. And his left ear keeps buzzing. I think that's the nerve being irritated by the shingles virus. It's still breaking out and he looks pretty awful. Poor hubby!

What lung disease does he have that lowers his immunity? I have copd and I have all intentions of getting the shot...once I can afford it.

Geeze that clear finger nail polish sounds like a weird treatment, I wonder if it works? If it does, why don't doctors recommend it?
