Thanks, ya'll. DD is taking it pretty well. Tangerine was such a sweet thing, never bit her and always real personable. She was one of 6 gerbils we took with us on our cross country trip in 2007, so Tangie was a well-traveled little thang. It's sad--one by one the last litter is dying off now. Now we're down to the last 2; they're both about 3-4 yrs old. DD has been raising gerbils since she was 5yo--she's 15 now. Even though they're rodents, these little gerbils have been so much fun. I miss every one of them.

Gerbil average lifespan is about 2 years so you've done well! Must have taken very good care of them to have them live longer than the average!

Our gerbil lasted the average 2 years. Her name was cookie and was the same - never bit, was sweet as can be. I buried her near my hydrangea plant when she went and that plant now gives us the most beautiful flowers! We call them Cookie flowers!
