I see where the att aircard is advertized at over 7.2 mpbs data d/l speed. Compared to Verizon and Sprints 3.1
Is this for real?
I have heard bad things about their reception.
Can anyone that has this new USB card leave a comment about your feelings and experiences with it?
Thinking of useing ATT but want some info about it.

I have one and used it up on the Coast off SF. Good speed. At home in the valley, same thing. Pretty quick surfing the web. On occasion, it has been slow but its a hit and miss. For best reception, it would have to get its signals from the EDGE network.

When in a 3G area, it is great. When not, but still in an ATT cell signal area, you still get service, but slower. They are working on converting the entire system to 3G. Most major cities already are.

As long as you can get 3G it is as fast or faster than my Sprint DSL. I use a tethered Blackjack. Most metro areas have 3G. Without it it is about like dial up. I had Sprint which really sucked. Very happy with ATT coverage, customer service, etc. The $60 data plan is pro-rated so I can turn it on and off for a weekend, etc.

If you buy your communications equipment, rather than getting it almost free by subsidizing it with a contract, you should be able to buy digital data service without a specific term contract. You can activate and deactivate service; there will be fees for doing so.

We just got ours Friday and are in a 3G area. DH uses Verizon with his work laptop and it wasn't as fast when I was forced to use it all day Friday. We've been in some areas that get poor Verizon coverage.
We went with AT&T because of price (FREE - after rebate) and because we have an iPhone which also uses Edge. Monthly charge will be less than our Hughes.net was.

I don't turn off the voice plan. I just turn off the $60 data plan. And that is pro-rated to the day, so you can turn it on for a weekend and that's all you pay.

Like ALL cellular "Air Cards" Your millage may vary depending on location.
Yes it is for real.. Just do not expect full speed all the time.
