I have a 10 gallon atwood wh. First trip out my wife and I both thought it was rather too hot. We have two kids so we are concerned. Any suggestions how to turn it down??

Newer water heaters do NOT have an adjustable thermostat. Found this out the hard way on the last TT. Same complaint, Dealers was great and installed a new thermostat. Guess what? It was hotter than the old one!

If you look at the side of the tank, you will see a disk type thermostat (about the size of a penney) with two wires going to it. Radio Shack has many to choose from rated at different temps.
I think on Attwood tanks, it's located below the electric element

I wonder if You cracked open the bypass valve allowing some Cold Water to pass through, it might act as mixing device?
I haven't tried this as My Hot Water isn't overly Hot!
Just a suggestion!

Thats a clever idea! That way it would be safer but you could turn the bypass back off if you need more hot water for showers.

These are not after market thermostats. They are made by Atwood. http://store.dan-marcrvparts.com/adeamoatwahe.html
I installed one 4 years ago, takes about 15 minutes.
