What would be your idea of the perfect four person, three season tent for camping? My daughter has asked this question to me and I don't have a proper answer for her. I hope the experienced tent campers here could give to me some suggestions.
Thanks

I REALLY like the Alps Mountaineering Taurus tents for the following reasons:

-Simple design - no goofy parts like Eureka has started doing
-High quality - made in same factory has REI tents (or so I've read)
-Dome tent - good headroom for size - good wind shedding
-Not the over-use of mosquito netting - many tents these days have too much netting, so on cold nights you can get away from the breezes.
-Lots of ventilation through doors and vents.
-Heavy duty zippers - first part to fail on most tents
-Aluminum poles
-Tent clips onto poles - no pole sleeves
-Vestibules - place to put dirty shoes - also don't need to mess with hood poles
-Used by many Scout Troops - if they can survive Scouts, they've got to be tough
-Setup instructions sewn to bag - can't be lost
-Company founded by people from Kelty who needed better control over lives - seem like nice people.

My only complains/concerns:
-Wish it had mesh pockets in all four inside corners - not just two

If you prefer a hooded style tent, the Alps Mountaineering Meramac is their hooded version. This is more of a hot weather tent with hoods and more mosquito netting.

Look for a 10 square tent - whatever brand you like. You get plenty of headroom, and a good floor. Enough room to sleep a squad.

REI Base Camp 4 Tent

This tent will be good for car camping. But if you're looking for a backpacking type tent, REI Half Dome 4 HC Tent might suit your needs more.

Both these tents have great ventilation and have a vestibule to store gear. From experience, REI has quality tents with great customer service. That's why I go back to them even if you have to pay a bit more for their products.

If you're lucky, you may be able to find one for a good price at their next garage sale . I bought the Half Dome 2 HC at their garage sale for $30 and the reason for returning it was it was missing a tent peg which I replaced on the spot.

We just spent our first weekend in the Eureka Copper Canyon 10 and really found it to be perfect for 2 and would easily fit a few more,It was easy to put up and kept us cozy and dry when it started to rain..
