If the US manufacturers have any forward thinking at all, they should be bringing a few of these over here and dissecting them! Modify them slightly and build them for us. Please!

Sort of a European "RV.NET" site!

Here's what US made RV's like we have cost new and used in Europe. I would think that these would be way to big for the average European town!

I am from Germany (now living in Edmonton AB) and know these RV well. I rent MH or TT whenever I go back. IMO I like european campers a lot. The design is very different from north american design. But I don't thing north americans will like enjoy those units unles north americans change they expectations.

For one, the units are smaller than everything you can get here. MH's build on a Sprinter chassis like we see here are BIG. Also most campers don't have much in water tanks. Most tanks are around the 5 gallon mark for fresh water. Will you be able to live with that?

I agree the units are very nice but I don't thing too many north american RV'rs will be happy with them.

They can replace many class B's made in North America as they have better engines that probably get 25 HWY with the MultiJet Diesel. But the bigger units are not a contender in USA.

Willkommen Herr Gonzo! Good points you made, but 80% or more of American RVers don't dry camp, and their destination campgrounds have water and electric hookups, so tank sizes are not that relevant. The point is that very soon (or now!) Americans are realizing that the "bigger is better" theme of the "American way", especially when it comes to using up our finite resources, is just not going to work anymore. When my teen's are gone from the nest soon, you can bet my DW and I are going to downsize, so we can start exploring the rest of the USA and Canada!

The US car manufacturers are finally bringing the excellent European cars over here, and building things that used to be European like the '09 Mazda6, the 2010 Ford Fiesta (designed by Ford Germany in Europe), the new Saturn Astra and GM Vue from Opel Germany. And us Americans are snapping them up, good looking cars that perform well and get outstanding MPG! What a concept!

And Renault, VW and Fiat all have almost completed development on Diesel engines that are as clean as hybrids! The VW Passat Diesel is already certified in all 50 states for sale, and Fiat will plug a 50 mpg Diesel into the Subaru Outback soon. The truck engines will follow, allowing the excellant Fiat Class C truck chassis to be imported to the US. It will blow the Dodge and Mercedes van duo away with close to 30 mpg! We're ready!

Sorry, you're wrong. Bigger is better, small pop-ups are available, if that's your thing.

The problem with the "bigger isn't better" argument is that for all practical purposes the mileage difference between the average larger quad slide motorhome and a no slide shorter motorhome simply isn't enough different to account for the loss of comfort. Unless American manufacturers come up with some innovative engine/fuel consumption units, the average RV operator is probably better off staying with their big rigs.

I don't see them doing too well here. I for one am not gaga for all things European. Those RVs fir their environment, but not ours. There is a reason my ancestors left Europe so many years ago. Some good ideas though that could be incorporated into RVs here.

Never understood the bigger is better argument for the weekend explorer. If your fulltiming I understand but if your like most people I know you only get at the most 50-60 days a year in a RV.

If all you want is too pull up, park, watch tv and look out the window at the seanery...I say go for it. If all I want to do is sit on the couch and look at trees I'll just stay home and open the curtins.

MPG really shoudn't come into play.If the 1-5 mpg difference from one rig to another makes you feel better, then go ahead.
