Does anyone else use Gmail and find it cumbersome and confusing? I find the long trail of sent/received e-mails distracting, at best and dangerous, at worst. I have actually sent e-mails to the wrong recipient on at least two occasions---that I know of. I still have AOL and Yahoo but have changed most of my accounts over to Gmail.

My wife and I use gmail, I like it but she doesn't. I have to admit though that when there is a lot of back and forth between multiple people it does get a little confusing. I'm the Pack Committee Chairperson for a local cub scout pack and when I send an email out to the whole pack and get a ton of replies its sometimes challenging to follow them all in gmail.
In addition to using it online I also have my gmail account set up in outlook. When I start to get confused, I open outlook because it handles it like traditional email.

Like the others have said if you don't like the GMail web interface then set it up in Outlook, Outlook Express, Thunderbird, or the like. Google provides free access to gmail through pop servers so you can use any interface you like....
This, as described by Gmail itself, is what I don't like:
Conversations
Gmail groups all replies with their original message, creating a single conversation or thread. In other email systems, responses appear as separate messages in your inbox, forcing you to wade through all your mail to follow the conversation. In Gmail, replies to replies (and replies to those replies) are displayed in one place, in order, making it easier to understand the context of a message -- or to follow the conversation.
When you open one message in a conversation, all of your related messages will be stacked neatly on top of each other, like a deck of cards. We call this Conversation View. In Conversation View, each new message is stacked on top of the ones that arrived before it, so that the newest message is always the one you see first.
I like GMAIL very much - but I generally use it through Entourage (= Outlook for Mac) and on my iPhone. I like the "conversation" format and I also really appreciate the fact that I can send an email from my iPhone and it shows up in the correct spot in the conversation.

I absolutely despise Gmail... it is the worst thing I have ever tried to use..
The only reason I keep it is for all the "Junk Mail" that my friends keep forwarding to me..
you know the kind of stuff I mean... dumb jokes, pictures of naked women, religious and political jokes and presidential election garbage, most of which is not true..... etc...
I told them that I got rid of all my other email addresses and they had to send everything to Gmail account..
The ONLY thing I like about Gmail is that it automatically dumps all trash every 30 days. which means that I only have to check my Gmail a couple of times a year..
YAHOO is a Zillion times better than Gmail and Yahoo is easy, simple and clean cut..
I have JUNO.com as my primary, Yahoo.com as my secondary, SBC.com as third .....
and Gmail is just one step away from the garbage can..
But each of us is different and as always It is... "To each his own"

TWO CENTS WORTH
The story goes that a man died and was approached by the Devil who told him that he could buy his soul back for a dollar. The man searched his pockets and could only come up with 98 cent. While begging the Devil to forget the two cent he was short, an Angel happened by and hearing the Devil laughing, asked the man, "Would you mind if I put in my two cents ?" The Devil got so mad that he exploded in a puff of smoke and the man's soul was saved. The moral: Sometimes putting in your two cents worth makes a difference.
