The Michelin LTX tires that came on my Sprinter need to be replaced, and I recall reading some recommendations here a while back. I would especially like to hear from anyone who had LTXs on a Sprinter and changed to something else.
Tire size is 225/75 R16. (16 inch wheel)
While I'm at it, has anyone put slightly wider/taller tires on a Sprinter? Perhaps 235/75 R16? Have you had clearance issues? I'm not looking to get lectured (Please!) or start a raging debate, I'd just like to find out if there are any success stories out there.
BTW, the search function seems to be limited to the past 12 months. Am I missing something?

Take a look at Michelin XPS Rib's. They are built like a `tank' and should give you many years of service.
No, I don't work for Michelin but I have them on my tow vehicle and now on my RV.

Not sure what the original tires were on our Sprinter (2004). We replaced them about this time last year at 65,000 miles. The new tires are BF Goodrich, Commercial T/A, LT225/75R16 LRE M+S (just went out and copied that off the tire, but it's getting dark - hopefully I got all the numbers right).
These are heavy duty commercial tires with some heavy tread. We live in Minnesota and have very steep, winding driveway so we needed something that would get us up and down (safely) in the winter. In addition we do alot of our travels in remote areas and frequent BLM campgrounds so we wanted something that would get us in and out of those areas. These definitely give us the extra traction we were looking for. They're not exactly quiet on the highway, but even in bad weather we can drive with confidence. We've been very happy with them.
Come on out to Moab on the 3/4/5 of October and we'll show them to you.....

I was happy to remove the LTX's before they wore out. Currently on BF Goodrich Commercial TA's. Not the M&S model. Tread looks similar to the LTX's. Stiffer sidewall helped the handling...

I am also looking for replacement tires and I am looking forward to seeing more posts on this subject. There don't seem to be very many tires in that size that have a load range E rating.
So far, I have just been looking at tire ratings on the tirerack.com website. The customer ratings reported for the LTX A/S original equipment tires are just average. The Michelin LTX M/S tires are rated much higher. The highest ratings go to the XPS ribs that were recommended by Dick B. Those tires, however, are rated as summer tires only.

SHEARWATER, where did you possibly get the idea the XPS tires were 'rated as summer tires only'??? Granted, the XPS Rib tire is not a traction tire, but you wouldn't want an aggressive tire on a trailer anyway. They make the XPS Traction for powered vehicles.
The Michelin LTX and BFG line (owned by Michelin) are very good line of tires, but not all-stell cord like the XPS Rib.

Trailer Were talking about a Sprinter Van.
Anyway, I'm very happy with my Bridgestone V Steels.

I'm watching here too. Currently have 63000 on 05 Sprinter with the LTX A/S I like the tire ,looks like I will get 70,000 easy.
Talked to a Expeditor in Alaska this summer she got 70,000 out of her LTX A/S then switched to LTX M/S gets 90,000 miles a set now. She had over 340,000 miles now. Sounds like the BFG is great choice too.

The only Sprinters I see at our shop belong to FedEx and DHL, so I'm very interested in what everyone is running and how you like them.
Is LT225/75R16/E the most common O.E. size?

They're both boxy and white, I can see people's confusion.
I'm at 45K on my Michelin LTX A/S and my only problems with them has been traction on ice and loose gravel. Not much one can do about the latter through without springing $15,000 for the 4x4 install.
